Hunts in Southern CT?

Title says it all.

I can’t seem to find diddly squat via google. I’m new to the area (New Haven) and I’m thinking about resuming field hunting. Can any of you guys give the the lay of the land here?

TIA!

Have you tried mfha.com? There will be a listing of hunts on that site somewhere.

Thanks! So Tanheath Hounds and Goldens Bridge are the active hunts? Does Goldens Bridge Hunt or just do paces and hunter trials?

Anyone with first hand knowledge of CT hunting?

Sorry - I’m below the Mason-Dixon line so do not know.

But those hunts ring a bell… do you know of FOL? I think you’ll find the answer to your question (and possibly find a hunting buddy) on FOL.

There isn’t much to my knowledge directly in the New Haven area. There is Fairfield County Hounds and Old Chatham over in NY.

Tanheath is an active hunt. They are a live hunt out of Pomfret, CT. A very welcoming group as well. Many of their hunts are held over the RI border in Greene or Cumberland and in the Wrentham, MA area. There is a hunt 10/18 in Pomfret at Tyrone farm (GREAT fixture! would be worth the drive) and there will likely be a hunt in Scotland, CT come November. They’ll possibly be hunting in the Canterbury area at some point as well at some really nice new fixtures.

The CT Tanheath fixtures would be about 1.5 hours from the New Haven area and a fairly easy drive up 95 N to 395 N.

If you’d like to get on their fixture mailing list PM me and I’ll put you in touch with the MFH for Tanheath. I am sure they would love to have you join for some hunting fun!

Eons ago I hunted with Litchfield Hounds in Litchfield, Conn. Fairfield Hunt doesn’t hunt IN Fairfield any more, but farther north of Newtown. Old Chatham, NY is within driving distance and has a great hunt/territory. I used to live in Trumbull, Ct. then went to Yale, in New Haven, then lived in Litchfield, so I’ve got an “ancient” history of the area!!!
