Husky/Stanley Trunk Cover

Hi All,

I am looking into different tack trunk cover options for the “potential” upcoming season. I am wondering if anyone has purchased and loved their cover? What was the material? Who are you favorite vendors? Bonus for links!

Side question - do you match your trainers colors or do you do individual colors with the trainers logo?

TIA!

This might be a better question for the H/J folks. To me, a tack box cover is an annoying, impractical extra thing that will end up tossed behind the trunk to get dirty all weekend. My trunk is more for utility than decoration.

Hi Zella,

That is why I am asking this group as Eventers are different than the H/J crowd and I want to know if this is something that Eventers have used or would use.

Thank you for the feedback

I have a Stanley trunk. Just being in the barn it gets dirty, dusty, grungy quickly. Though a fabric cover looks nice, I haven’t gotten one. The reason I got the Stanley (besides low $$ and portability) was to be able to spray or sponge it off often. Don’t know how long a cover would last with frequent washing unless it was heavy vinyl? But the effort to take on/off everyday is not practical for me.

We’re a pretty individualistic bunch, Seattle Sourcer.

I’ve never seen anyone use a cover for their trusty Husky/Stanley tack trunk, at home or at shows. And we all do our own XC colors for the most part, no such thing as using your trainer’s logo on anything.

I have seen a couple barns (Tamie Smith’s barn and Morningside) do something where everyone at the barn uses the same pattern for their XC helmets but in their own colors but the majority just do their own colors and design scheme.

Sunbrella is the only fabric I use to make trunk covers. Rot resistant, mildew resistant, water proof, and color won’t fade.

I’m an eventer and I have no problem with you asking this question on this forum!

I think that Smartpak has a cover that fits the Stanley trunks. There are also several Etsy tack trunk cover makers that have patterns on hand already. One even had a cut out for the handle. I have seen several tack trunk covers at horse trials.

I don’t have a Stanley trunk, but I would think a more practical customization would be to make a cushioned seat topper just for the lid, so nothing needs to be moved to open or close the trunk, AND you get a nice place to sit with your colors.

Now that I would go for, seeing as I use mine for naps more than I should admit…

Thank you everyone for your input! This has been super helpful. I haven’t seen the trunk covers in action, however I “like the idea” of the look for a HT. I like that the predominate feedback it to match the personal XC colors. That was my idea as well. I really LOVE the padded idea for the top, to have a place to sit to put boots on or what not that is not the lumpy top is a great idea! Thank you all for the input!

I have a Husky trunk. I wouldn’t use a cover on it because, as others have said, it’s just one more thing to clean and move around. I did make an attachable pad for the top so I can sit on it to pull on boots or have a quick snack between rides. For that I took a lawn chair pad, sewed velcro to it and then stuck velcro on top of the trunk so it’s secure. My show pony has a tendency to grab and fling things she can pick up so I had to “Cupid proof” the pad.

In terms of decorating, I primarily put stickers on the inside of the cover and just have my monogram on the outside to mark the trunk as mine when there’s several of the same in the barn aisle. I do have a friend who uses a trunk cover for eventing and I love how it looks, but she spends a lot of extra time cleaning it each season and taking it on and off during a show.
