I am a horrible person for not being shocked and appalled by this video?

Roseymare, I have no issue with they type of treatment on a hog farm as you describe. However, is that the same as life of a pig on a “factory” /intensive agriculture farm? They seem different but correct me if I am wrong.

I don’t write for PETA but Alagirl is the poster child for defending mistreatment of animals by bashing anyone who questions it. Keep up the good work! (sarcasm intended)

Made in China?
I think it is cheaper to fly horses in from Canada than raise them large scale in Japan. It might be rural, but not very big.[/QUOTE]

that makes even less sense to me. Japan is quite a bit bigger than the UK - and if it’s that many that’s insanely expensive. They have a huge beef industry, horse meat farming isn’t that different.

No it is almost unseparatable, that is the issue with all of the trying to label and name. How it works is the corporations own the hogs. Farmers own the houses and provide the labor. There are bad farmers out there nno question about that.
And I am not sure that I like the companies being so powerful. But some farmers have pulled out of these systems and are starting coops again.
Once again i want to reiterate that there are people with bad husbandry practices in all rungs of the ladder from people with 10 animals to people with 10,000.
It is just a very complicated issue.

I suspect Japan as a larger population density. But I agree when you look at the size comparison it does make you question them not raising them in country.

Thanks Roseymare for informative post.

Large areas (~ 70%) of japan are mountainous and unusable for agriculture.

Aren’t there Kobe beef farms on tops of mountains?

I don’t know, but that may explain the rather high price.
