I bought a new horse today!

Many know that we have had a lot of sorrow in our family, with the loss of our Big Horse, Elijah, this spring and then our pony, Parker, last week.

Some may also remember that I was already struggling before Parker passed and a friend had offered a half-lease on her horse to get me back riding. Well, I took her up on it and am half-leasing her (very nice) horse this month and next.

But, I took a self-assessment and realized I have tried so hard to share my passion with the family that I sort of shared myself right out of riding for myself. So, I decided I to search for a nice horse for myself.

Through a Dreamhorse search, I found a promising prospect and after emailing and talking back-and-forth with owner and trainer, decided to fly to Lexington, KY today and give him a try.

Yes, we clicked, we fell in love with each other and I bought him! He is perfect for me - temperament, size, skills, everything clicks!

Meet Velvet Cash!

Video of him jumping: (advance about one minute to see his round) https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=apc-GPyWfSE

I have photos I took today posted to Facebook, but I can’t seem to share them from iPad.

Here is his Dreamhorse ad description, and I have to say he is exactly as advertised:

14 yr old., 15.2 H, all black paint w/ papers and star marking on face currently on loan to Locust Trace Agri Science HS in Lexington, KY.

Easy Keeper, excellent ground manners, Has no vices. Cash is a brave, honest jumper. He can easily perform basic lateral work and has auto lead changes. Cash has competed successfully in the 3 schooling jumpers. Trailers, ties, clips, loads, stands quietly for farrier and vet. Easy keeper, healthy, excellent feet. UTD on all vaccinations, worming, coggins and teeth. Honest, goes over water, ditches, has smooth transitions. Rides in a snaffle bit. Has been ridden in English and western saddle.

In good condition, front shoes for jumping only. Loves to jump and do cross country. Needs an intermediate rider for cross country. Cash is a safe, fun and reliable gelding that aims to please.

I rode him, and could not stop smiling. In fact, tears were running down my cheeks because he just felt like home.

Yes!
Handsome fella!

Congrats. You needed a little pick me up.

Oh, yay! Good to have such happy news.

I am so happy for you!!!

Congratulations!! In the flat video he looks a lot bigger than 15.2!

Congrats!! He’s beautiful! You’re going to have so much fun together.

I am so happy for you. Congratulations!

Thank you so much. I was so happy while I was riding him and when I got off and we walked to the rail to chat, he was in my pocket. Would not take his eyes off me. He knew I was a good one, too.

OP, I am so happy for you!
Sheilah

Thanks for sharing him, and this happiness, with us. Made me smile.

congratulations… be happy… King, Eli and Parker are smiling!!

I am happy for you both. Congratulations!

Congratulations!

How wonderful for you!

That was very smart of you, move on and find your next horse.
As we say with dogs, each one teaches us to be a better dog person for our next one.

While quarter horses get all the credit for wonderful temperaments, I think paints are the real gems at that.

Thanks for sharing your story with us.

Best to Cash and you from now on.

Super cute!

 I know this to be true for a fact  !

I’m so happy you both found each other.

Didn’t get to watch the videos this morning, was in a hurry, but wow, that is a very nice horse!

You both are going to have a ball, he will love working for you, you will enjoy all he brings already to the game.

That seems to be another of those priceless, good egg type horses.
How do you keep finding those?
They are extremely hard to find for sale.

He looks like he may even fit as a nice grandkid’s horse.

Thank you to everyone for your kind words. I am back home to my computer now and can share a couple of photos. Neither DH nor I are very good at the camera-phone thing, so these are not terrific shots, but you can see him!

That is about all we got that were not fuzzy!

We made arrangements for Cash to stay at the school until October 1st – this because they use him and school starts next week, so this gives them time to find another horse; and because my August and September at work is slammed and rather than bring him home to be ignored, it makes better sense to let him stay and get tons of loving and attention and be worked for two months! Meanwhile, I still have my half-lease with my friend so I can work on getting myself back into decent riding fitness.

I was concerned that I would not have confidence riding, but I have to say that once I settled into the saddle with Cash, he really felt like home.
