I thought I had all this straight. Rambos are made in Ireland,of 1000 denier material and waterproof on the outside layer. Rhinos have their waterproofing in the second layer and are made in China where Amigos are made. I forget the strength of their denier.
Today, I bought on sale for a whopping low sale price a “Rambo” New Market mid weight turnout, made in China with the rhino waterproofing system of 900 denier martial!!
What’s the scoop?
For some reason I cannot edit my thread but the Rhinos have been made of 1000 denier material and the Amigos 600 or 1200 denier in the Bravo.
I’ve had a couple of Rhino blankets and they’ve done well for me.
Where did you find the deal? Several of the big on line e-tailers are having 20% off Horseware items.
Knock-off?
No, I bought it at Dover and it is one of their catalogues as a clearance. I am not concerned that it is not a nice blanket. I am just confused as to all the details. Rambos, to my knowledge are always made in Ireland, they are always 1000 denier, and they are always waterproofed on the outside! The description of this Rambo is that it uses Rhino technology. Does anyone have info on this?
Copy editor glitch?
Is this the rug?

Maybe this was a made-for-Dover item? SmartPak has some co-branded items with Rhino, and Adams has some “exclusive” colors of the Amigo Bravo turnouts. That’s all I can think of, but it is a good deal, if it holds up.
Yes that is it and as you can see, it is dirt cheap. Too good to be true? I just emailed Horseware to ask about it. Maybe you are right about the Dover relationship but none of the salespeople could explain the price or the description; they were flummoxed.

Hopefully Horseware would stand by any warranty issues, should anything come up. Usually a retailer would be all but shouting “Exclusive to Dover by Horseware” or the like. Although as a clearance item, maybe it is from a previous year?
I don’t remember seeing a turnout in medium weight in the Newmarket colors, but I do remember the turnout sheet, printed cooler, stable sheet and the heavy fleece cooler and quarter sheets. I may have had a few of those items in my own horse wardrobe. :uhoh:
What’s the worst that can happen, right? Great price!
Dover does seem to be the only place that has it.
I remember them running that newmarket stripe years ago in a turnout- at the time I believe it was advertised as a Rhino.
Again, sleazy marketing on Dover’s part.
from Horseware website: Today, our Rambo range is still made in the same town in Ireland under Tom’s watchful eye and with the same attention to detail and high quality material that we prided ourselves on in 1985.
I’m guessing this a Dover mistake not a Horseware one.
Horseware used to have a QH line they sold under the Rambo name. It wasn’t the same quality and the price reflected that. I believe they now call it “stock” and sell it under the Amigo brand. Perhaps this is something similar?
Generally I’ve seen all the “Newmarket” line stuff branded “Rambo Newmarket”. Most of it is fleece or coolers, or apparel. It does say in the description that the blanket features Rhino construction, just bearing the “Rambo Newmarket” collection label.
Problem solved…I heard back from Horseware…It was indeed a special blanket made for Dover.
I don’t know if it’s sleezy marketing on Dover’s part, but it might be a copy-editor error. The blanket in that stripy style, as a quarter sheet and cooler, is called “Rambo Newmarket”. So it sounds like they thought that’s the name of this blanket too.
I saw it when I went to Plaistow and almost bought it… I really wanted it as an xmas gift for my sister’s new pony.
well crap
Why did I open this thread? I just bought one The pony is kind of outgrowing her 69 so I went with the 72. If it works, great, if not, I ship it back.
I bought a similar one last year from Dover. Also Newmarket. Branded as a RHINO and an exclusive Dover color. I guess this year they’re branding it a RAMBO. It’s a perfectly nice blanket, albeit LOUD
This is the one I bought last year from Dover
