I bought my daughter a pony!!......again!!! (aka. my faith in humanity has been restored)

So, if you remember, last year I bought my daughter a pony. Here’s the thread about Miss Daisy: https://www.chronofhorse.com/forum/f…s-ulcers/page1

We loved Daisy, but my mare hated her. It wasn’t just a few pinned ears either. No, my back pasture was like some rerun of Degrassi High. Or Jerry Springer. Possibly both. It was bad. So bad that poor Daisy just kept losing weight, even after Ulcer treatment, good feed, hay, separation…you name it, I did it. Then Diva broke her leg, and I had to board her, and in the few months she was gone, Daisy looked wonderful, and peace was once again felt in the land.

But, my daughter has PANDAS (http://www.pandasnetwork.org/) and when she is flaring, she isn’t always calm, which would freak poor Daisy out.

That’s when I knew that keeping her wasn’t fair, but as a Mama, I can’t break my little girl’s heart, and I couldn’t let Daisy end up in a feedlot again. Now call it prayer (I do) call it Karma, call it whatever, but as unlucky as I seem to be in the horse world, this time, things worked out perfectly.

I found a mutual friend, who lived close by, and was willing to do a temporary trade with Daisy, for a 12.1 hh. 6 year old pony mare that she had, and loved - and was NOT for sale - that she was willing to trade for. She had ponies and did pony parties for a living, but this mare was slow, and tended to stop a lot when led. Fine by me. The next day she brought “Shasta” and picked up our sweet Daisy. Within 30 minutes my daughter Addie had renamed her “Elsa” and we were saddling her up. She is perfect. She bosses even my mean mare around, is a super easy keeper, but best of all, she is crazy about my daughter. See for yourself: https://www.facebook.com/katty76/med…9655844&type=3

I didn’t realize how attached even I had become to Miss Elsa, until her owner called saying that she didn’t think that Daisy would do well at pony parties, and could we trade back. Tears rolling down my face, I asked her what it would take to change her mind. We talked a lot, and I finally offered her Daisy, her new Blanket and rainsheet, and a check, and she said she would think about it. Pretty much all day yesterday I wanted to throw up, just thinking of how I was going to tell my daughter that Elsa had to go back, but then she called. She said that although she never sells her ponies, that she just couldn’t take her away from my daughter, and that she would accept my offer. I’ve never been so happy to write a check in my life.

Today, when she stopped by to pick up the check, and check on Elsa, she was thrilled to see how happy she was. she said that Daisy gets along great at her place, and that she has her very own round bale, to stuff her face in.

Anyway, I just wanted to share this because I know how discouraging the horse world can be, but sometimes…SOMETIMES…you meet an honest, truly caring horseperson, and everything works out in the end, the way in should. My faith in humanity has been restored.

I think we got it right this time:

That’s the sweetest picture ever! Congrats on a happy outcome. You are a great mom!

Well, here’s a cool thing, that didn’t dawn on me, until someone on Facebook pointed it out… My daughter’s first pony was named Daisy. This one came with the name Shasta. As in…Shasta Daisies. Now, how cool is THAT? (and I usually like to leave names, but I left it up to my daughter. Her first pick was Angel Starlight Sparkle Shine, so I was pretty thrilled when she finally settled on Elsa, at that point.)

Such a sweet story! SO happy for you and your daughter. What a beautiful pony. Congratulations!

Very sweet! Looks like Elsa is happy to have her very own little girl!
