I brought my horse to work today...

… Because we hunt on Wednesday afternoons and I’d like to stretch my 4 weeks of vacation as much as possible, so I’m taking a half day of vacation every possible Wednesday. Work is about 30 minutes from the fixture so it just makes sense.

He’s been happily(?) munching on alfalfa in the stock trailer all morning.

Anyone else do this?

PS- I work for an Ag company so they don’t really care if there is a horse in their parking lot. Or that I’m already dressed for the hunt…

That is pretty awesome!

That is awesome!

I think if they have hay and water and someone to eyeball them, it’s not a big deal.

I got to bring my horse to work once when I worked at a tack store… it was awesome. We had him hang out in the adjacent paddock (with hay and water, of course) during my shift – then a friend picked us up and hitched us a ride to a local eventing facility for some after-work schooling and drinks… Horse happily munched hay in the trailer while we stopped for tacos after.

But I had one of those freaks that actually enjoyed traveling and being in a trailer. I wouldn’t do it with any horse.

Have fun on the hunt… Will there be pictures?!

I have had to take a horse to the vet right after work a couple of times. I teach ag so would bring the horse to the school barn then take my classes down to visit and learn a bit about horses. Working in ag is good.

I do this quite often. Home is 30 minutes north, lesson barn is 2 hours south. So I often do the same; make best use of my vacation time, so the horse(s) comes to work with me. There are certainly plenty of horses I wouldn’t trust to do this. But the easy going, happy-go-lucky lazy boys can just as easily stand in the trailer to eat hay as they can in the pasture.

I’ll also do this for vet and farrier appointments. If wingnut throws a shoe and farrier can only meet me at X time in town, well wingnut is going for a day trip then.

I use to bring my horse to work on Weds afternoon after the hunt. :). I was working for an equine vet back then. My mare enjoyed the afternoon in a stall. Fun memory.

I did that a lot the year I was part of the drill team! I took my gelding to work in the morning so that I didn’t have to drive 50km back home to get him and then come 50km back.

Sure, all the time in the summer…

But checking fence, water troughs, or moving cows IS my work, so it would be unusual to show up without the horse.

They get pretty good at hanging out all day, tie them to the trailer to eat from a haynet or hobble them to graze while we have lunch.

Glad I’m not alone!! I expect all my horses to be able to handle hanging out in the trailer for extended periods of time, he can be a little obnoxious in the trailer so this is good for him. He handled it just fine, had a bucket of water and munched on hay. And he talked to everyone he saw, so polite!! I can see this being a normal thing in our future.

He was a little up for him while hunting but I’m thinking it was because of the cool windy weather, fresh body clip, and the fact that he had his first real long hard run at the last hunt, and he’s been hunting long enough that he’s getting the game figured out. (He’s a now 5yo in his first year of hunting. We’ve been whipping in and riding with the huntsman all season. Normally he’s a snaffle kick type of ride).

My aunt took her horse to a wedding once
She was at a show and knew she’d be cutting it close, so she packed her dress and changed in the dressing room. The horse hung out in the trailer while she went into the church for the ceremony. Evidently he and the trailer were dropped at the farm before the reception!

Given that people where I work routinely bring their boat or ATV to work (for afternoon play), it seems completely reasonable to me that you would bring your horse on the way to a fixture!

Glad he was a good boy.
