I was crazy envious when the Merle-Smiths told me they had been down to Australia for foxhunting a few years ago. If I knew of some hunt down there with horses for hire I would definitely zip down there for a month of hunting in July-August. Imagine hunting in July! If I hit the lottery I’d just alternate living here/there just to avoid summer. I am just so fed up with heat/humidity. Once I lived in the Philippine Islands for six years straight. I’ve had a belly full of heat/humidity in my life…
My partner hunted a pack of foxhounds in Perth, Western Australia, for 6 years before we moved back to my home (NZ). Very very different hunting to what we have here.
Not a single fenced jumped by the field in the whole 6 years, although hunting there certainly didn’t lack speed! Some of the properties we hunted had paddocks of 500 - 700 acres each, and all dead flat.
Our hunt here consists of harrier hounds and we (obviously!) hunt hare. Lots and lots of jumping, and to my mind, far more interesting.
