I’m super short and I use the original method in the first post. Sometimes my arms are too short for the reach so I’ve sometimes grabbed the offside saddle strings instead of the far side of the seat. If the saddle has a cheyenne roll I just grab it where it works for me in the general direction with my short T rex arms. Whoever said it’s in the hips is right, I do so much better setting the saddle up than carrying it to the actual horse. Doinking the stirrup on the horn is kind of a rookie move but if it makes it easier on the horse do so. The way we put the saddle up there is no stirrup smack, the saddle comes down like a slow blanket. It’s worth trying to get the feel for it b/c I am a super shorty and no weight lifter!
