I have found my happy again...it’s AWESOME.....the roller coaster rolls on, and it fell off the rails! I sold my happy!

I’m late to the party on this one, but just want to congratulate you,OP! Mellow is so handsome and I wish all the best to you both. I hope you can swing things financially to keep him and that you continue to enjoy the show season. What a lucky horse to have such a devoted owner

So far so good! As to the show season, well would like to show in August, if it doesn’t happen I don’t care, as long as I can enjoy him.

You look like you are all having so much fun. I hope you can keep Mr Mello and continue to have fun with him.

Those “just a” trail horses are worth their weight in gold.

That looks like so much fun! And a campfire and weinie roast at the end?! How wonderful to have a horse like Mello so that you can enjoy such opportunities.

Why do I keep this boy? Cos he is a goof trying to get pictures of him in his new snazzy fly mask, the first few show his views on that! He always looks ridiculous because he has such tiny ears the tops of the mask tend to fall over.

And a rare selfie!

I can tell that you are his Mom in that last photo! You have the very best family resemblance!

This horse will be the death of me!

This was him on Wednesday, horrible hives all over, poor boy.

He was a lot better yesterday, and I got to watch him be a lesson pony…

I saw that once, a bay eventing TB we had in training for a while broke all over with marble sized hives.
Was determined he was allergic to alfalfa.
We had to put him in a corner stall and make sure not a whiff of alfalfa would come close.
Since alfalfa is all we fed and was every place, we had to get special grass hay for him and be sure no one came close to him but a few careful, designated grooms and riders.

Only time I have seen a horse allergic to alfalfa.

I hope they find what your horse is allergic to.

It’s been a bunch of frustration this summer, eternal is he lame/not lame, is it front, middle back, does he need rest, work, faith healer…

Next week he is being hauled up to the clinic for X-rays, fronts, feet and fetlocks, and hocks just for good measure. I am fearful that this isn’t going to be good news, the vet seemed to be kind of pessimistic about his prognosis….given his PSSM1 making him a challenge to manage anyway. So so frustrating, tune in next Wednesday or the next chapter of the roller coaster bride.

Jingling for him. And you.

{Hoosier Jingles} for you both!

Jingles!

It was good news, and bad news…

The consensus of opinion from the vets who have reviewed the X-rays, see mild osteoarthritis in the pattern, and some thinning of the navicular bone. Now looking at pain management and shoeing options. He also has some roughness on the wings of the coffin bone, which is considered not to be problematic, unless it’s interfering with the DDFT.

In one of those twists of fate that happen in life, I saw a trainer that I know, and respect, looking for a ‘special’ horse for a client who has disabilities. It sounds like it would be a perfect fit for him, so I have reached out and started a conversation. I was not even thinking of letting him go, until I saw the want ad, but now I am certainly thinking that this is a role that would suit his abilities, or lack of! With someone I know and trust.

I guess it’s watch this space

I’m glad you got some veterinary input from the x-rays. It sounds like he’ll have some significant maintenance issues in order to keep him comfortable. Perhaps it was serendipity that you ran into that trainer. It could be you’ve found the perfect place for him, with that client who has their own “special needs” and needs a sweet, cute and safe horse.

Looks like the original person may have found something. I am convinced now though that he really does have to find a home better suited to his needs.

VENT

How fruitbat hard does it have to be to get a farrier to come and remedial shoe? I have approached two who are meant to be good, both said they were willing and able to help, I got fed up waiting for the first to book me in, despite a couple of reminders, moved on to the second, now he is ghosting me….

So at last Mellow is sold, a nice lady has been half leasing him since fall, and they are getting on great, so I let her buy him.

Today I am heartsore, even though my head knows it is right, but I almost being horseless, and not knowing if I will ever be an owner again.
