I heard from my OTTB's breeder!

I sent a message to my horse’s breeder’s son on Facebook in March 2015, but we all know how finicky FB messaging can be. I hadn’t thought about that message in a long time, and then this morning I got one back!

He asked how she was doing and said she was one of the best his family bred. I told him about our dressage lessons and trail adventures and occasional jumps, and sent a bunch of pictures. He said her life seems amazing and he’s so happy for her  Apparently, her dam was sold some time ago, so they’re not sure if she’s still around. He doesn’t know if there are any Skipper baby photos, but fingers crossed.

I feel all warm and fuzzy, so glad her first family remembers her and is glad she’s doing well <3

ETA: He also asked if I wanted another one and sent me a photo of an ADORABLE 5-year-old homebred gelding, and it physically pained me to say I could not ;_; I’m going to bug my friends until one of them takes him.

That’s so great! It’s such a nice feeling, isn’t it?

I got this TB warhorse when I was in high school and owned him the rest of his life. Just by chance, I came across his breeder’s FB page and shot them a message. They were so thrilled to hear from me. I was overwhelmed by their kindness. When he passed away, the family was some of the first to send condolences. It was such a wonderful full circle feeling. We still keep in touch, which is nice because they have become good contacts to have as I embark on my own breeding ventures.

How cool! I did find my OTTB’s breeder on FB, but he has over 200 broodmares so I really doubt he’d remember one of his horses from 5-7 years ago that well.

Just because he has over 200 broodmares doesn’t mean that he would be unappreciative hearing that a horse he bred has a good home and is successful in his/her second career.

It never hurts to shoot a quick message along the lines of, “Hi, I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate this horse you bred! Thanks!”
