I just switched to a new dog food and LOVE IT

My theory on dog food is to feed the best you can afford. I have fed Nutro, Chicken Soup, Science Diet, Pro Plan, and others over the years. My most recent was Canidae, and my dogs were doing ok on it. I’m paying about the same or less for this than i did the Canidae ($39 for a 35 lb bag).

We went to the Home and Garden show in Great Falls (MT) in April and talked to a guy selling Redpaw dog food (http://redpawdogfood.com/). I visited with him about the food, the ingredients, and the development of this food. I like to research, so i used dogfoodanalysis.com, dogfoodproject.com and dogfoodadvisor.com to check it out. Only dogfoodanalysis didn’t care for it, and dogfoodadvisor gave it a 4.5 out of 5 rating.

It was developed by a musher who has won the Iditarod several times. So far, i’m very sold on this food. After only two weeks my dogs have way more energy, they all eat every bite (even my picky eaters)their coats are shiny and their stools are smaller and firmer. Riley, our 3 legged border collie, has been LEAPING off the ground to greet us…he’s never done that. This is a dog who is of undetermined age (10 or 11 maybe) who we found wandering with a broken hind leg in 2010. Now he’s leaping into the air for sheer joy, a feat he could not do previously.

I’m really looking forward to this fall’s hunting season to see how my Springers do!

Which one are you getting? Also are getting it online?

I know if I fed my dogs what a musher feeds their dogs my dogs would be screaming pancreatitis! I want a boarded veterinary nutritionist formulating my diets and I want them to have passed AAFCO feeding trials. I wouldn’t want a dressage rider formulating my horse’s diet, why would I want a Musher formulating my dog’s diet?

Yo, it says right on the webpage.

“Redpaw is proud to introduce you to a line of products that are designed to support the nutritional needs of the sporting and working dogs.”

Bumper hunts with her dogs hence they are working dogs. If your dog isn’t a working dog then this recommendation probably isn’t directed at you.

Thank you cowboymom.

Yes, i have HUNTING dogs, who work hard. I’m not sure why you sound so hostile cute lil fancy. And considering very few people consult a “boarded veterinary nutritionist” to find a dog food, i’m wondering why the hostility?

Blacklabs: i’m feeding PowerEdge 26. The distributor is a K9 officer and feeds it to all the K9s in the force. There are two places in town that sell it as well, but many folks just order it from the website. I have to drive to town to get ANY dog food (town is 65 miles away) so it’s not a big deal for me. I’m trying to get some friends who raise hound dogs to try it so we can buy a pallet at a time and get a break on the price.

If you go to the website they will try to locate a dealer near you. If nothing else, research it and see what you think. I’m sure it’s not for everyone, but it’s sure working for my dogs.

Some of the formulas have bacon fat. Everything’s better with bacon!

I’m going to look into it for my working Great Pyrenees. He runs the boundary all night long and is thin, he could use something like this and I’m glad to hear it’s in Montana! Looks like good stuff!

The distributor i met is in Great Falls, he’s a cop there. Nice guy. If nothing else he might be able to hook you up with someone closer to you.

Thanks, I will keep that in mind, we moved over to the extreme NW corner of the state so even further away from GF, but maybe there is a call for it here. Lots of hunting dogs for birds and hounds… I’m going to look into it.

I’m kinda curious if it might work for my Shiba Inu. I’ve tried just about everything with him, and frankly, I’m getting a bit discouraged. I’ve always fed him super premium dry or frozen raw and now he’s on freeze-dried raw. He has always had issues with loose stools. I’ve tried grain and grain free and no difference.
About the only thing consistently good with him are his coat and teeth. Lately he’s had some odd health issues and I’m worried. His relatives live on pedigree and proplan and some other sled-dog food, and they live forever and die of old age. I might try this. Plus, ya know… bacon.

…bacon…yum

Have you tried the balanced fat supplement? I wonder if that would be good for my picky eater who needs weight…

Yeah the only distributors in Montana are Steve Scheer and Rick Larson (who is a musher), and Rick is near Great Falls too.

You can order it online, and if you really like it you could probably become a distributor yourself.

I ordered some to try. I got the Training 26.

Um…not that you will be eating it… LOL

Have you tried one with fish as the protein? I’ve read some dogs can be so sensitive that even the grains eaten by the protein source can affect them.

…and I thought you were the one who was loving it. Your dog does, too, it seems…bacon - yummy

Yep, and I seem to have the only Shiba Inu that hates fish kibble. I’ve tried several brands and he just wrinkles his nose at it.

FUNNY you should mention the AAFCO.

Redpaw PowerEdge 26K is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for all life stages of the dog.
