I know trail riders use these, maybe we should too!

I just received mine, ordered mostly because I trail ride alone, but it’s not a bad idea to wear while hunting, too.

The other thing I usually have on me is a medic alert bracelet or a dog tag on a bracelet that indicates I’m asthmatic & that my inhaler is in my coat pocket.
I think most people I hunt with regularly know that, but just in case I’m visiting somewhere or a guest finds me…

I have the lo-tech version: a piece of paper with my name, emergency info, people to call, barn name to return the horse to, etc. - taped to the back of my helmet cover with big pieces of clear tape. I printed the piece of paper out on a printer, so it’s neat and tidy. But still a little cheesy I guess. But I just take the helmet cover off for events or clinics, etc. so it looks nice again.

(ETA: clearly not suitable for hunting, though… in which case another option is definitely worth considering…though I’d prefer something that didn’t require the EMS to find a laptop/cell phone connection. Just military style dog tags, maybe?)

That’s what I was thinking, too.

Maybe something like the armbands eventers use. Basic info on the front, and you could tuck a little card with more personal info behind it.

The RoadID can list some basic information on front, if you opt for that version. You could probably have it say something like “check pocket for info.”

I keep a copy of my license, insurance card, and a business card in with my hunting license. The cover for the license is blaze orange and it stays in my vest pocket.

Folks I hunt with know about it and where it’s kept.

Our hunt is developing a card similar to the one eventers use to keep in our coat pocket.

The riding club I belong to requires a medical info band like eventers use if we participate in mounted activities. I added a copy of my drivers license to the pocket as well as info on who to call should my horse need to be collected. The elastic on those eventing bands is fairly stretchy. I have stocky legs and I can wear it around my leg just below my knee so it is easily seen if I have a fall.

When I was a Marine, a lot of us - especially guys in Force Recon - had our SSN and blood type tattooed on our rib cage, just under the heart. That way, there was nothing to lose/remember and the dog tags didn’t clink and make noise when you didn’t want them to.
Probably Not the latest fad for the hunt field though, huh?

I never really thought about this but it’s a good idea. The eventing armbands are pretty comfortable and you could certainly make up your own card with information pertinent to you.

I agree with “Twofatponies” - I know in the area where we hunt/ride, our phones don’t get great service and there’s not much “3G” (not sure what that means but iphone can’t find the internet without it!). So a method that relied on internet access might not be the best, depending on your location.

Interesting! Makes a lot of sense. But no, probably not a fad for the civilian world.

Dog Tags

I got a set of dog tags with my info and phone numbers, I wear them every time I ride. I also put tags on my bridle, saddle and turn out halter with my barn and cell phone numbers. It was very cheap about $13 for all. I wouldn’t get the engraved metal tags again because the ones on my halter and bridle are getting worn to the point that you can’t read them.

Damn

I made up a simple card with all my vital information and had it laminated. I have it tucked into the inside band of my helmet. At first I thought it might be uncomfortable, but I don’t even know that it’s there.

I tried the engraved “dog tags” for my trusty guy Riley and I, but they wore just about flat in no time at all.

I have the interactive Roadid and I really like it.
One thing that is nice about it is you can go into your profile and add information if, for example, you are travelling. You can put that you are staying at such and such hotel or wherever and who you are travelling with etc anytime you need to. You can also easily update information.
There may not be a good 'net signal at the exact place where you wreck, but most EMS and law enforcement systems are set up to deal with that. These days most of them have laptops right there in the unit, and if they can’t get through their dispatchers can, and give them the info. Plus there is 'net access at the hospital.

I think it is a great idea and I just ordered one.

I spend a lot of time in the bush both with horses and dogs. You never know when I might wreck myself.

I’ve got a couple of friends that are former military, and both have their dog taags tattooed in the same place, listing all vital info. Not a bad idea, in my book, but I’m the tattooed freak around here, anyway. Lol
