I’m getting tired of goodbye

My heart is hurting.

A year ago I lost my dog Panda to Hemangiosarcoma.

(I have helped my neighbor with his horses off and on since 2016, though not mine)
Then the yearling Biscuit got kicked and died instantly.
Just recently in the last few weeks my heart horse Blondie got stuck in the creek overnight and broke her leg, had to let her go

Today found out my moms cat went downhill suddenly (just saw her 3 days ago she was fine)
Had lymphoma and had to be put to sleep

This all sucks. I guess I’m just venting

Aw, man, I’m so sorry. It’s tough and I feel for you. Take care of yourself.

What a sad series of event! Venting is fine. Do what you need to do.

I also got tired of saying goodbye, horses, cats and dogs.

This is part of the reason I no longer own domesticated animals. The other reason is that I am too crippled to take care of them properly, but I kept on trying to take care of them until I got tired, really tired of saying goodbye. That is when I stopped getting new horses or other pets when one of mine died.

There are days that I really miss having horses on my land, but then I remember how tired I got and how it ALWAYS will end, nothing lives forever.

Now I ride lesson horses, take riding lessons and help train/retrain lesson horses, and I am enjoying myself with the horses. My lesson stable has plenty of dogs that want me to pet them too, so I get both my horse and my dog fix there, with no need to work myself into exhaustion.

This really resonates with me.
I’ve had to put down 3 horses over the years, and it’s so hard. This last time did it for me - I have pretty much decided not to own a horse anymore.
I will still ride, take lessons, maybe lease long-term, but I do NOT want to have to take that fateful decision anymore. It’s just too hard.

Dogs and cats are different, though. I probably will never be without one, if I can help it at all.

OP I am sorry you’re going through this. Sometimes it all comes in series. I feel for you. Take care.

Thank you everyone for the kind words. I’m also sorry for all your losses.

It never gets easier

I’m so so sorry. Having to say goodbye to animals you love never gets easier, no matter why you do or how many times it happens.

This is exactly how I feel…tired…In the past year, I’ve lost my mom, two dogs and 4 cats. I take care of a 33 year old horse and he will be going soon. My heart just feels frozen for now. Reading COTH helps a lot…

I am so sorry you had to go through all this recently Sweetums-Mom.

My angel horse made it to 33. Losing him finally was hard.

I think it is much harder when it happens so soon - one right after the other. It breaks my heart every time, but I have decided that that is the price you pay for admission - to experience those animals and them and their love and antics. I wish they could all live forever and never be ill or injured.
