I need a dressage legal nothing bit.
Isn’t the minimum legal bit diameter 11mm? or is that eventing dressage?
For regular dressage, minimum is 10mm.

It is PERFECT but it’s been recalled and they don’t have them available right now! Ugh!! I was allll over that one and I have a few emails out to see if they will be bringing them back!!
Wonder why it’s still on the website? Apparently the recall was several years ago. You’d think they’d either remove it, or have some sort of notice on the page.

I just got an email back from them that they are planning on releasing it again but no date/idea of date. Grrrrr. It’s flippin’ perfect!

I don’t know if you’re willing to shop internationally, but how about trying these people: http://www.abitspecial.com/

This http://www.horsebitbank.com/loose-ring-happy-tongue-649.phtml is so far the only bit my fussy horse will go in. Depending on where you are in WI we could probably figure something out so you could try it. No idea if its usa dressage legal though.

I’ve read the suggestions for the Neue Schule bits, and I completely agree. It’s an investment - I got the NS Verbindend, a loose ring with a type of expensive-evolved-german-type-of-french-link for ~$145 CAD including shipping from the UK, and the diameter is 14mm, but you can get thinner. It is an AMAZING bit, and is great for people who want a bit that gives you results you want of a double bridle, but cannot fit one in their horse’s mouth. My lateral work and small circles have never been better, and my horse (with a sensitive mouth) loves it. Plus with the gold alloy, it warms up nicely in the winter

Neue Schule Verbindend!

I was just looking at the Neue Scheul website and they have a comfy contact baucher which looks a lot like the mouthpiece of the bit you’re using. Except way more expensive

That’s the one I suggested that is currently out of production (was recalled).

I just want to sympathize with the chomping that “can be heard across the state” mine still does that when frustrated and sometimes when we are working on something new. We settled on a HS loose ring lozenge, but had a NS of the same style which although was very nice was too long despite my wishful thinking (bought it used). Hope you find a bit that helps!

I just wanted to update everyone that she is going brilliantly in that funny gaited bit! She was going very well in it (75% better and better than anything before it) with a dropped noseband. I decided to pull out a figure-8 I had tried on her once before with zero change in results. The combination of the two have turned her into a…brace yourselves…QUIET NON-FUSSY MOUTH!!! 3 years I have been trying for this!! She takes a lovely contact, doesn’t fuss and is as good in this as she is in her bitless. Just wanted to update everyone that the $25 gaited bit is doing the trick! Yay!!!

Link to The Amazing Gaited Bit… pretty pleeease.

Ooops saw it in your other post #74. Don’t see why you can’t cut the shanks off, as long as it isn’t hollow it should be fine.

Good luck!!!

I’m really hoping when I send in pictures after I have the shanks cut off that it will be allowed. It doesn’t seem to break any rules from what I can tell by reading them. Fingers crossed and definitely worth a try for anyone who finds this post and is in a similar situation! Best $25 I ever spent!

Just realized my link went to the $50 one. I bought this $25 one. Same bit! Tough 1 Economy Comfort Gait Shanked Bit https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E2DLSDO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_i2CdxbJXN6V44

Isn’t it two different materials? (Copper and stainless?) I was under the impression that was an issue but perhaps that is wrong. I hope it is fine!

Did you cut the shanks off? How is it going?

It’s still going awesome!! She adores it! The combination with the figure-8 has her so quiet and happy in the contact. I’m going to be taking it in next week to have the shanks cut off and filed down. I’ll then send in pics to USDF to make sure it’s legal. I can’t believe after ALL THESE YEARS we finally found something that keeps her happy. Every now and again when she gets frustrated and goes to grab it but I’m fine with that. It’s maybe once or twice a ride instead of every 30 seconds! Her contact is steady and soft. Best $25 I have ever spent. Definitely worth a shot for someone in a similar situation!

USEF is the one you have to send it in to, they make the rules.

Have you had her jaw Xrayed, it’s possible that she may have a bone spur on the bars, this can make life very uncomfortable for them when a bit catches it. My friend has this problem, her mare was not so helpful and was bolting and behaving terribly. An X-ray revealed the problem, she changed to bit less and the horse is a treasure to ride.

Double jointed bits have much to answer for these types of problems as the joints catch against the bars.

Would this work? It appears to be the same mouthpiece but in a different ring set up, it may save you from having to have yours cut off.
