I have a very good barn friend who, in her younger years, clipped horses professionally. These days she clips her own horse, but she hasn’t clipped another person’s horse in a long time. Because she is the nicest person in the world and likes me and my horse, she recently did a lovely blanket clip for us. When we arranged this, I made it clear that I expected to pay her.
Of course, after she finished the THREE HOUR job (very hairy horse with a long, dense coat, and she’s a clipping perfectionist, lol), she refused to let me pay her. “Just maybe take me to lunch one day?” Well, that really won’t do, will it? We will go to lunch, but I want to give her a nice gift, as well.
Here’s the fly in the ointment: She has a retail business selling high-end equestrian clothing, bridles, pads, boots, etc., so she needs absolutely nothing of that nature. I don’t know whether she drinks, so I’m hesitant to buy a nice bottle of wine or champagne. I’m having a hard time thinking of a gift to give her when we have lunch next week.
Halp!
