I need help finding another minu donk...

As if I need any more enabling…

Current mini donk is doing very well, much better than expected, and will be set to come out of quarantine here in about a week. He’ll be coming to live at my house for the forseeable future. But of course, he will need a friend.

I’m having a hard time finding another mini donk john within reasonable driving distance (say, 1-3 hrs one way). I’m in NE VT, so I’m looking at mostly upstate NY, NH, VT and maybe northern MA.

Looked via Craigslist and some other similar sites but no replies. Google searches for farms nearby don’t get me much info.

Any ideas? Both these guys will most likely be pets, perhaps with some light driving in their future, but I don’t need show worthy or anything.

Probably 4 hours away, but Kinnitty Capall stables in Ancram NY has partnered with a rescue and is helping place mini donkeys and horses. Let me know if you can’t find them and I’ll dig up contact details. The owners are Ronan and Kristy Moloney.

Any livestock auctions near you?*Around here they get dumped at the auction.*I picked up our mini donk at the auction and he’s the BEST LITTLE GUY EVER!

We got current donk at a livestock auction, and he was not in good shape. Either way, closest ones are much further south than I’d like to drive in winter.

SMF11, thanks for the tip, I sent them a message from their website. Hopefully I hear back!

If you are on on FB, please reach out to Tia Bonkowski/Turning Pointe Donkey Rescue, or Little Longears Donkey Rescue. Both find/save/quarantine/recuperate/adopt out the most amazing donkeys.

What about calling VLAC or LAMA to see if they know of anyone looking to re-home their donkey?

(For others, those are vet hospitals in the area.)

Abbie.S - you have a pm.

Thank you all. I didn’t even think to call VLAC, Dr. Phil and I go way back. I’ve never used LAMA but I’ll try them, too.

Shine, responded to your PM!

Thanks, all, I’m looking into all leads!

How about these guys? I think they need a soft landing place and look super cute http://virginiaequestrian.com/main.cfm?action=classifieds&sub=view&ID=155093

I am a huge HUGE fan of mini donkeys and have been known to travel 500 miles just to go to a mini donk show, although my favorite (in wine country in California) is no longer in existence. I do try to keep up with the miniature donkey world. You would like this website: got donkeys dot com. Gail H. runs it, she’s been active in minidonks for years, the website lists breeders and shows by state. NMDA (the breed association) has a good website and the magazine NMDA “Asset” is adorable and has a lot of classifieds. If you don’t think you’re going to compete in NMDA shows but are interested in VSE combined driving where breed registration isn’t a requirement, you might take a look at some of the mini (and standard) donkey rescue groups and adopt. You would be dismayed at how many people acquire these for their cuteness factor but don’t have a clue about training or even basic socializing (and you are right to be looking for a companion for your current guy because donkeys are even more in need of similar - donkey - companionship where horses are fine with a goat or even some chickens for company. Please feel free to PM me if you want more info, and good luck with a buddy search!
