I rode my filly western for the first time ever today!!

So today my back was pretty sore, and I thought, “hey let’s see what the baby is like under western tack.” We had SO much fun!! Seriously, it was a blast.

What do you think, is there hope for us? Lol!!! (As much hope as a hunter rider on an appendix can have, in any case…)

“Jogging” for the first time.

And a little canter:

I think you both look pretty darn good. I am doing the same thing and it is a blast. Your girl looks pretty happy too and that means lot!

She is so cute!!!

I’m sure you know by now that I am a huge advocate for cross training, so I say fill your boots and have a blast! It’s what I do with the Javabean! I figure the more things we have that we can do, the less likely we are to get bored!

Aww thanks guys. No matter which route we end up taking, the only thing that matters to me is a happy horse. She really seemed to relax and enjoy what we were doing today, so that was cool. A little distracted with the tractor going by and the construction crew in orange paving the driveway next to the ring, but all in all a good kid today.

Where is the snow? Why do I live here?

But your filly looks like she was bred to be a western pony! I am also having fun playing with western with my two ladies…I think it is making me more conscious of my outside rein and my seat and is helping Izzy carry a longer neck.

haha! No snow here. Both of my roommates are from Alberta, and they say they have no desire to ever do another winter up there. LOL!!!

Isn’t it so much fun? (the western, not the snow! LOL!!!)

Cute horse! Looks like y’all both were enjoying yourselves. BUT… if you’re riding western, it’s “lope” not canter. I have an english background and am fully immersed in western for a few years now, and my husband is still making fun of me every time I say the word.

ha! Well, it’s more of a canter than a lope, but you are absolutely correct! I’m hoping to take her to a couple of local open shows this spring for experience, maybe we’ll have to try a couple of western classes too. (once we figure out what we’re doing that is… lol!)

Just adjust your hand position before then. At the lope … or canter … or gallop  (whatever you want to call it) your hands were nearly at your knees. Hard to have “feel” and be light with your hands when your arms are so far back and down.

Super cute horse, by the way!
