I showed online

There are many fewer schooling shows in my area, down from 5 or 6 each summer to just one, and I love to compete. So, I showed online. It was pretty cool, with some unique challenges. Preparing myself and my horse was just as stressful and time consuming. I keep my horse in my back yard so I also had to prepare my arena. Then there was weather, time of day to film, rain, bugs and arranging a photographer.

It was a fun experience, but it wasn’t without it’s challenges.

I’ve done this with my minis. Some of the fun online shows in the UK have long-reining classes. The hardest part for me was getting CL filmed correctly. If the camera/video person is out of alignment by just a little it is magnified 10x on the video. I really enjoy it.

How did you do, Carol O? I judged a show online back when we were all quarantined for COVID. I didn’t have a scribe, so I would watch the test and recorded my mark for that movement and comments on my phone. After the test, I would transcribe my comments onto the test sheet. It was a bit time consuming, but it was fun.

I have showing through https://www.onlinedressageinternational.com/ which I mentioned in another thread. Very detailed feedback, very interesting tests, very positive climate. Much more economical.
No more getting up in the middle of the night or hanging around all day…
Well worth it.

We did well! Thanks for asking! 69.6%, my 6 year old’s first “show”. We had drought, then too much rain, then dark horse in the shadows and dodging rain clouds, then potentially filming into the sun. It took all day, one change of clothes, filming as soon as we could when the sun went behind trees, but not so long after that that it got dark.

One take was all it took.

It was fun, a bit stressful, but different stress than at an away show.

A few times I thought of scratching, but was really happy and smiling by the rides end.
