I Think There's a Troll in These Woods

Am I just imagining things? There seem to be an inordinate number of threads lately which are so similar that I am wondering if the same person is creating names and starting these threads. The topics are diverse and appear in several forums. They have the following common elements:

  • started by a greenie. Often a first post.
  • very long.
  • similar word misspellings.
  • lacking paragraphs.
  • similar verbiage and punctuation styles.
  • drama. Stories are long, involved and full of detail.
  • situations and problems have elements which are fantastic or border on the unlikely or the implausible, yet, all elements are possible.
  • stories contain details which are provocative and illicit a lot of comments and opinions.
  • greenie OP creates the topic and then leaves the room.
  • OR greenie objects to comments and rejects all advice, often with anger.
  • if the greenie does respond to criticism or advice, she/he changes the essential elements of the original posts, or adds details which justify her/his objections to advice. Sometimes the details change the original post profoundly.

What do you say?

The first few posts I made when I joined CoTH were rather short and tentative and were comments on existing threads. I didn’t dive into CoTH with dramatic details of my life and my problems. That does not mean that I am seeing this situation correctly; it could be that the new posters just have a different style.

I say shame on you…you’re going to make me go look for them aren’t you?

I too demand proof in the form of links!

Oooo ooooo! I wanna know which ones too!

Ive been relegated to the Favorites forum (which I’ve just discovered!!) since we’ve has such a drought of Trolls recently. I was beginning to think they were all dead.

Thou temptress, you. I demand links. Links, I say!

I’m calling one as the “lease gone horribly bad” in the h/j forum. What else y’all?

Definitely the lease one, and maybe the one about wanting to leave a barn but only owning 3/4 of the horse. . . I’m always up for entertainment though, especially since my body is apparently anti-sleep tonight.

I didn’t name them because I don’t want to call out a new poster who sincerely wants advice. But at the same time, I feel like I am being had. I guess I can avoid hurting major feelings by only commenting on threads about mundane topics.

And yes, that lease thread is one of them and it is a mundane topic. The most recent thread is the one about the Mormon neighbors trespassing into the OP’s arena and being generally annoying. I see all kinds of potential for that to be a train wreck, yet it is based on a very possible scenario.

I honestly don’t remember the others, I just stumble across them and think, “Really??” Then I spend half an hour composing what I think of as a thoughtful post, I reconsider, and then I delete my composition before posting it.

Oh yeah, the 3/4 horse thread. Right? Right?

Mormons in the arena?!?! Sounds dangerous.

No sleep for me either. The post on a one month old colt mounting his dam, with slightly salacious details.

I think we are all talking about different threads.

Lease gone bad -> skinny horse returned, is not the same as 3/4 ownership, or Mormon involvement.

I think its just spillover from people who should stick to the website that comes up when you google horse forum. although the one month old bedding his dam is creepy.

 Somebody leased 3/4 of a Mormon horse and now wants to move it?

Trolls:
Nature’s way of making you pay attention?

Wait - you’re saying someone is unhappy with the Quarter Horse that remains? BREED PREJUDICE!

Wait…what?! Where is this thread?!

PeteyPie, you might have a point there. Not sure about all of them but the ones like the 3/4 ownership and the lease struck me as being, well, just odd to borderline weird. Something not quite adding up. If it is a troll, it’s a very clever one…except I would like them to start using paragraphs.

I usually don’t even read them unless they generate more then a couple of pages of discussion, trying to decipher the long posts devoid of punctuation give me migraines.

On the upsides the OP has returned to the bad neighbors thread, so the reading continues! Though, her spelling and grammar aren’t like those of the other threads where the OP disappears, so hopefully she’s real! If so, her neighbors are awful!

Sometimes this is the only way some of these authors can publish.
