I was awarded my colors

Yesterday was an incredible day. Not only did we have a very fun hunt, the croppers party was full of hilarious stories how the King and Queen and court became croppers!

Much to my surprise and delight, I was awarded my colors! A total of four riders were awarded colors; two of which are very good friends of mine.

We were all extremely honored and couldn’t wipe the smiles off of our faces the rest of the night.

The expression is “to come a cropper”.:frowning:
A “cropper” is somebody who grows crops.

Congratulations! That’s wonderful!

so how do you say it for a group?

ok, but how is it said in a plural and past tense of a group of people?

" …stories how the King and Queen and court to come croppers?" or “…stories how the King and Queen and court to come a cropper?”…

How would I phrase that correctly? Please advise.

I didn’t mean to offend…

I keep forgetting that there are times when one’s grammar must be perfect on COTH…

You’re right, but regardless, CONGRATULATIONS bigbaytb!

It must feel very exciting to have been awarded your colours.

Enjoy the glow of honour

ok…so it’s not plural when referring to a group of people…Thanks!

Congrats!!!

What are your hunt’s colours?

Congrats!

Congrats! You realize this now means that you need to get to the front of the field and sllllowwwww wwwayyyy dddoowwwwn…

Wahoo Wah!

Congratulations!!

Now I want to know what the King and Queen and croppers is all about. I don’t know this terminolgy or story. You may emil me if it is too delicate…:o

our colors: robin’s egg blue and burgundy.

Whicker, “to come a cropper” means one has fallen off one’s horse.

Thankfully there were no serious injuries, so tales of how one parted ways with one’s horse were expanded to glorious heights.:lol:

Congrats!! Such a special feeling when you get your colors.
It is a shame the first reply to your news neglected to congratulate you–and leave out the grammar lesson until later. Surely there is an etiquette lesson in there somewhere.

CONGRATS!!! What an honor. I’m sure you will wear them well!!

woooohooooo!!

Congratulations! Now you’re a lifer!! Fully initiated, sworn in and captive!!
Wear them in pride at your accomplishments and know that they had faith in you, like you and want you to share their pain!!:D:lol: Only kidding! Keep learning, watching and enjoying this wonderful sport. It’s a privelege not many get to share in. Your’re special but it’s an ongoing learning experience which is part of the charm.

IMHO, one of the responsibilities that those w/colors have is to share, mentor, encourage, educate newbies.
You become a true ambassador for your hunt and our sport.
Go forth and have fun!! And it’s ok to let your pride show.
Happy Hunting!!!

Congratulations!

Congratulations BIGBAYTB!!! This was my year to be awarded colors as well, so I share your excitement! It seems that every photo take on me in my scarlet this year shows a big happy smile.

Enjoy, and have fun being someone that shows how special fox hunters are!
