i saw three future racers and many pregger mamas the babys where big and wow what a nice place!
I went there a few years ago and it is beautiful. Who owns it now? I thought it had been sold recently…
im not sure the shiek(sp) of dubai is building a new nursery that is huge so im not sure…

Two entirely different farms although both are in central Kentucky -
Gainsborough Farm, near Versailles, Kentucky, was founded by Sheikh Maktoum al Maktoum of Dubai. He died of a heart attack a couple of years ago while attending an Australian yearling auction. The Maktoum family still owns Gainsborough, and (I think) it is now managed by his brother, Sheikh Mohammed al Maktoum.
Clarence Gaines founded Gainesway Farm, on Paris Pike just outside Lexington, Kentucky. His son, John Gaines, ran Gainesway for many years before selling it to South African breeder Graham Beck. Beck’s son Anthony now handles the day-to-day management of Gainesway.

Now that’s what I was wondering about - whether the family maintained ownership. It is a truly beautiful farm - not as “glamorous” or ostentatious (sp?) as as some but just a horse heaven…
Little trivia - you know Sheikh Maktoum al Maktoum had some huge bomb shelter built into the basement?! And he was never there…according to the stallion manager at the time.
I hope that it is a well used facility, because it should be.
the sheikh is adding onto his house a new nursery and suite its bigger than our 3000 sq ft house! our guide told us when they come to town people stop working where ever their job might be to work for him as they will make more money working for him then their normal jobs (he pays well) and the homeless shelters recieve lots of food because they nned such lavish meals.
Gainesborough is considered to be the royal residence in Kentucky (while Darley at Jonabell is thought of more as a working farm). When Sheikh Maktoum was alive he used it when he came to watch the Kentucky Derby. The farm has since been absorbed by Darley and now Sheikh Mohammned stays there when he’s in town.
A couple of years ago we went to Darley Australia which was, as you would imagine, absolutely gorgeous. Manager Ollie Tate told us that Sheikh Mohammed had never been there. Not even one visit.
I got to go to Gainsborough last year to photograph references for “Scenes of Gainsborough”, an art auction to benefit the Woodford Humane Society. It was amazing, as so many of these farms are. We’re doing it again this year as they use the same farm two years in a row. The new house being built was unreal. Everyone was very nice and accomodating, strict rules on where to park and not park, where to drive and not drive, but all in all having a bunch of artists on the farm, they were great!

We bought a mare from Gainesborough a couple of years ago. From Sheikh Maktoum, through Mill Ridge, to… me, LOL. It had to be a drop in status for her. 
She just had her first foal for us last week:
