ICE Raid At Delta Downs

I agree, and if and when that happens the whole ugly mess will be escalated to who knows what.
I have read that some of these ICE guys are Proud Boys and other bullies, and like all bullies they pick on those that are smaller, weaker, defenseless.
They don’t seem to be attacking white guys who are open carrying…
I wonder if a can of wasp foam would be considered a ‘weapon’.

Same exact thing happened to me multiple crimes. Guilty of driving a crappy registered, insured truck in a nice neighborhood. You should have seen the officer’s face when he saw the driver was a white woman!

I think the same applies to some of the people who work in law enforcement. Not all of them, obviously.

But if you’re looking for a line of work that includes the possibility of physically subduing or shooting people in the job description…

I forget if it was on this thread or elsewhere, but somewhere online I’ve seen the question raised of whether a bunch of the people that Trump pardoned for January 6 turned around and became members of ICE so they could continue being his henchman, but this time in an official capacity.

They have badges and insignia on their clothing

That would be an amazing turnaround time to be processed and go through federal law enforcement training

The instance of them detaining Rümeysa Öztürk was so chilling.

No matter where someone was born, the United States should never tolerate inhumane treatment. Yet right now, detainees in ICE custody are facing conditions that are simply unacceptable in any country that claims to uphold human rights, let alone one that prides itself on freedom and the rule of law.

Reports describe more than 20 people crammed into 12-by-12 foot cells, forced to sleep sitting up, with only one toilet and no privacy. The rooms are cold, access to food and water is limited, and hygiene is neglected. People with serious medical needs, diabetes, thyroid conditions, are being denied their daily medications. One woman couldn’t check her blood sugar for over a day. Others have gone without essential medication for days.

This is not justice. It’s not safety. And it’s not America. We cannot allow this kind of treatment to become normalized. Silence in the face of cruelty is complicity and we should all be outraged.

I am just shocked that while people might fully support the inhumane treatment and confinement of “illegals” they don’t seem that concerned about the number of US citizens swept up in these raids held in these same conditions.

It’s as if the potential of losing one illegal outweighs any other laws.

Well, based of some of the video footage on the news, it looks like a lot of them don’t have much training at all. So that part might not have taken very long.

For example, it seems as if they skipped the part of the training where they were advised not to lie about things that were easily verifiable.

Where? Inside their pants? There are multiple pictures of white men in face masks, dark clothing, and military type weapons gear. There’s one on this page showing a guy outside Dodgers Stadium that I can’t see any identification on. Maybe it’s there but it sure isn’t apparent.

From watching video shorts by a civil attorney I’ve learned that if we encounter police or someone portraying police we should not open our house door and if in a car keep the doors locked and the windows up enough so they can’t get their hands inside. Pretty sad that it has to be this way.

i agree. I don’t see any identification anywhere. So how do we know who that is? Are we just assuming its’ ICE since that fits into what you (g) want to believe? They look like some third world militia to me.

The ICE, Border patrol etc I have seen have “police”, “ICE” etc on the backs of their shirts and badges around their necks.

As far as not letting police in, that’s not new. I wouldn’t let them in my house either without a warrant. There’s nothing in here they need, and if it’s that important they won’t have a problem getting one. Same for my car. I’m not consenting to anything. You want in? Get a warrant. I’ll provide my ID, we will have our business transaction and that will be that.
Obviously that’s been a thing for awhile or we wouldn’t have the 4th amendment. If people don’t know their rights that’s on them. Especially with the advent of the internet the information is out there and easily obtainable
And in regard to “someone portraying police” obviously they are up to no good so that is a no brainer.

Yet it looks like ICE doesn’t need a warrant, and they can detain anyone who looks Hispanic.

They ARE some third world militia, sadly.

I was raised to respect police and to assist them if I could. Up until a few years back, that’s what I did. Yes I know my basic rights, but I was raised that to be a good citizen and that meant you did things like allowing police in to talk. Heck, I thought it was polite to offer something to drink. Luckily my few encounters of this were for things like when my neighbors tractor was stolen, we invited the deputies in to tell them what we knew and made coffee for everyone. I wouldn’t do that now.

Years and years ago my boyfriend was pulled over because he changed lanes without signaling. He drove a crappy looking car and we both looked a bit like hippies. :sunflower: The cop asked if he could look in the car so we both got out. He searched under the seats and in the glove box. He didn’t write a ticket, just have a warning. My boyfriend asked him what he was looking for in the car and he said he thought we had marijuana. My boyfriends sister had put some feathers on a ‘clip’ and hung them by a chain from the rear view mirror. Huh? Ooohhhh, the cop thought it was a roach clip. Um no, no drugs and we didn’t drink either.

From Professor Heather Cox Richardson, yesterday:
"Individuals in plain clothes with their faces covered and without badges or name tags are snatching people off the streets and taking them away. Todd Lyons, the acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which is housed within the Department of Homeland Security, claimed that such measures for anonymity are imperative because “ICE officers have seen a staggering 413 percent increase in assaults against them.”
Philip Bump of the Washington Post looked into that claim and noted that by using a percentage, ICE avoids the question of just how many assaults there have actually been. He points out that year-to-date assaults against Customs and Border Protection are currently 20% lower than they were in 2024 and that at least one ICE news release blurred the distinction between “threatening to assault” and “assaulting.” ICE would not provide evidence for their claims.
Bump concludes: “[W]e should not and cannot take ICE’s representations about the need for its officers to obscure their identities at face value.”

So, the acting director of ICE confirms that their agents are in plain clothes, wearing face masks, without badges or nametags.
“for their own protection”
Just imagine, anyone who is defending this, how you would feel if this happened to you.

You can allow them
In if you wish. That does not give consent to search. You can also ask them to leave at any time once you have done so. And even if you give consent to search you can also revoke that consent at any time.

That’s very odd that they would do this, because it provides an immediate defense to anyone assaulting or even killing one (or more) of them.
However, that does not say that there is nothing on them
Identifying their affiliation, as I stated, and Id cards can be on a chain under a shirt, I can perhaps see his point for protecting individual identities, much like narcotics officers dress in a similar manner.

A recent report from a 17 yo in a detention facility said that there were 40 men in one cell. They were fed Saltine crackers twice a day for meals and there were no showers, or beds. He was given an emergency blanket and that was it. He said that there was one toilet in the cell and you used it openly in front of everyone else. He was held in the cell for 6 days.

He was detained accidentally because ICE was looking for his father. Because he came to the US illegally as a 7yo ICE started removal proceedings, despite his exemplary record at school and working to gain legal status. He spoke 3 languages and would help the older men read the paperwork they were given to sign because all paperwork was in English only. Thankfully his school rallied behind him and a judge granted him a bond.

They do not display anything identifying them when they show up and detain people.

I would fight like hell without seeing a warrant and ID.

I’m shocked that is hasn’t happened… yet.
