IceFil - does it work?

It is August and I am unpleasantly warm.

I am very prone to overheating, always have been. I get dizzy and feel sick in 80+, and it’s been 95+ recently (I’m not riding in this - just existing outside is physically distressing). I am wondering if the IceFil shirts/tights actually work to cool you off. Sounds very helpful if they do.

Does anyone own these? Experiences?

Yes, works for me. I’m much more comfortable in ice-fil shirts and tights than in regular riding clothes. I went riding with a friend the other day and she kept complaining about the heat but I was actually quite comfortable. She was wearing jeans and I was wearing ice-fil tights.

I am extremely heat sensitive. I am obsessed with my Kastel Denmark Charlotte shirts. I literally will not wear anything else. In a fit one day I rode in a regular T-shirt and was noticeably hotter than in a long sleeve sun shirt. I will never go back to my regular ways again.

ETA: I have also found a big difference between cheaper sun shirts and the Kastel ones. I have tried several brands - Noble Outfitters, TS, etc. The closest I’ve come to the Kastels are the EIS and personally the Kastels fit me better than the EIS. IMHO it’s better to spend a bit more to have a huge difference in feel and heat control!

I’ve had the best results with EIS and Kerrits IceFils. Romfh does a material called Chill Factor that does ok. The Ariat Sunstopper isn’t as cooling but breathes really well. All in my experience.

On the whole, I think they would work better in drier climates, but they still help in the humidity. I can’t even wear a cotton t-shirt to work outside in now, feeling the sun on my skin is just hotter feeling than a long sleeved sun shirt.

I think the IceFil shirts are great, but they’re not miracle workers. In your case, I’m not sure that the end result will be better enough for those 95 F days. But, they probably will help for the more moderate days.

Wetting these shirts can also cool you in a dry climate.

This is the correct line, right?

How is the fit to size?

I have an Ice Fil shirt from kerrits. Worked well for me last summer but I don’t wear it as often as I used to. Maybe I should? It’s pretty see through alone and pointless if I put something on underneath, so I typically wear it at shows under the jacket.

Yes, this is the one I adore. I find the fit on the Kastel to be a bit more fitted through the stomach area than the EIS. The EIS is very boxy on me and I think I could have sized down except for my 36DDD’s. I need that extra room and the Kastel works best for my shape.

I love my Ice Fil tights and shirts. We have had a very warm summer and they are the only thing I’ve worn (lots of washing). I’m dreading my Thursday lesson because I have to wear my regular breeches and a polo shirt. I usually ride in a cross country vest and the Ice Fil tops have been a life saver in my portable sauna.

My daughter has the Irideon IceFil and it is not see-through.

i recently purchased and used a couple of kerrits icefil shirts - and I must say I did like them compared to a t-shirt, and MUCH preferred over the kerrits venti shirt - which felt heavier, sweatier and an ickier fit overall.

thumbs up from me!

I’m cooler in my Kerrits tights and shirt than in shorts and tank top. I love them. I will agree that the shirts feels flimsy and see through but seeing as I bought it to wear under my jacket I’m not too bothered. I do wear it all the time lol, I just accept it was actually meant to be worn under a jacket rather than on its own.

I live in my Kerrits IceFil shirts in the summer - riding, shopping, doing yard work. I don’t even own any regular T-shirts anymore, except for those reserved for painting.

I’m going to second the Kastel shirts. . .They are the best. I am photosensitive and spend all year in long sleeves. These make summer bearable. I have tried all the other IceFil and Sunshirts, but the Kastel work the best for me. They also wash the best.

I bought an ice vest. Its a little heavy, but really don’t notice that after a few minutes wearing it. Its so nice to not be roasting!

I also like the Kastel. Many other brands are too boxy in the body and short in the arms for me. However, my Kastel shirts have stretched a bit since I bought them…I sized up to M because the shoulders felt tight in the S but I wonder if the S would have fit better long term. Might need to buy another!

I haven’t tried any of the Ice-Fil brands to compare, but I did feel some fabrics on the Treadstep and TS at a tack shop recently and still prefer the feel of the Kastel fabric. It also holds up well for being barn clothes.

In Florida, they still work well - we buy the sleeves as well for short-sleeved shirts. Not having the sun on you, and having the fabric wick away the sweat does wonders for the 95 degree days with 88% humidity (today). I don’t ride when it’s this hot, but still have to do chores, and as I age and get nearer menopause, it’s a necessity.

I love the Kerrits IceFil tank tops and wear them almost every day when mucking and riding. I also have one of their black shirt sleeve IceFil polos, which I wear under my show jacket.

While I can’t say they make you less hot, they do allow a lot of airflow and dry really quickly so you don’t stay damp and sticky in really humid weather.

I did try on the Kerrits IceFil full seat tights but the fabric is just way too light for anyone with lumps and bumps on their thighs. I’m an XL and lets just say it was not pretty!

I like the EIS mostly for the airflow and sun protection, don’t know that it makes me feel considerably cooler, but it’s very comfortable. Another boarder at my barn went up a size when buying and regrets it; seems like it needs to be a close fit to really work as intended, so make sure it’s fitted instead of loose.

Mine is a very light yellow and you can see a dark sports bra underneath a little, but it’s not transparent. Other riders at my barn have the bright or darker ones and they’re not at all see-through.

I just wore my Kerrits shirt yesterday for the first time. I didn’t notice any difference in how hot I felt. I’m very bummed.
