Ideas - Cat with high temperature, not eating, but . .

I’m so sad to hear this and I’m so sad for you and Nigel. I was hoping that no news was good news.

Enjoy every day with him and be kind to yourself. You have done everything you can and you will continue to do it. Nigel is lucky to have you as his mom.

Big hugs for you and please give Nigel a kiss from me. I’ll be thinking of you both.

Aw hell. I’m so sorry. Spoil him rotten, let him eat whatever he wants, do whatever he wants - let him live his last days as well as you can. We are thinking of you both.

How is Mr Nigel doing? And you?

Well, the Cerenia kicked in, and he’s no longer spiking a fever, which is good. We put him on daily Prednisone yesterday, as he’s not been eating well on his own. It’s helping a little, but not much, and not for the whole 24 hours, I think. I let him stay in the crate during the day - soft bed, litter box, food and water - and then we do the subQ and meds routine at night. Still syringe feeding him as well. I feel like we are probably close, but he is still enjoying hanging out with everyone when he feels well, and so I will keep a close eye on him.

I really cannot forgive myself for not catching it sooner.

NO! DO NOT beat yourself up for this. Please - you have enough to think about without adding that to your load. You are a good and caring owner.

I will give you some words one of my vets gave me about one of sick cats. I felt sure that she had something that I “should have caught.” My vet looked at me and said “Oh, are you a vet?” no. “Oh…then you must be a god.” NO! “well, then” she said “How were you supposed to know?” oh. She’s right - I guess we feel so attached/in tune/whatever with our beloved little fur family members that we feel we should somehow KNOW. It’s not possible. You are doing your very best for them - look how happy they are. You couldn’t do less.

I’m sorry about Nigel. I wish they lived a lot longer and stayed healthy throughout their lives.

Don’t beat yourself up. I know it’s easy to say and hard to do but if you wouldn’t expect me or any of the other posters to know things for our cats you have to give yourself the same kindness.

You have done the best you can for all your kitties. We all do and sadly sometimes it isn’t enough. Hug your Nigel, brush him with his favorite brushes and spoil him silly.

Many hugs and jingles for Nigel and you.

Hugs and love to you and Nigel.

We do the best the we can for our animals. We make the best decisions we can for them. Sometimes things don’t go like we wanted. That doesn’t mean it was the wrong decision and we have no way of knowing if another decision would have turned out any different or any better. But I understand exactly how you feel.

Thinking of you and Nigel every day.

He’s better today, after a rough day yesterday. He was still running a fever - 102.9 - so he got another B12 and a Convenia. He was vomiting, which we finally got under control with dose of Mirtaz. Spent last night syringe feeding him. Vet did say his gums are still nice and pink, so I want to start him on an iron supplement if I can find one.

But this morning, he’d eaten all the dry food I left in his crate overnight, and wanted out. He’s been bright eyed, hanging out in the bedroom, eating and drinking (I brought a water dish into the room, yes). He’ll have his subQ’s in a little while.

Thanks. Me, too. He is a very tough kitty, for sure.

Here’s a photo from this morning. He’s still here in my room, chilling.

I’m glad he’s doing better today. I hope tomorrow is even better.

Some of my fosters really liked pet tinic. One would lick it out of the syringe.

Eta he’s a handsome boy. His eyes are bright.

I was reading about the Pet Tinic - not sure I can get it locally, but can get it shipped in.

That look on his face. He reminds me somewhat of Ollie. Ollie would get that same look - he wanted oh so badly to do something but wasn’t really feeling up to it so had to content himself with The Look.

Love the white under his eyes. Unusual. Glad to hear he is feeling a bit better today.

Wow, you’ve really been going that extra long mile to help your beautiful boy. Great job! Best of luck to you both to find a stable treatment and routine. It must be so hard on you with all the changes and adjustments. I hope you’re finding time to take care of yourself.

Nigel felt well most of the week - the vet is still concerned about his temperature, which is still high enough to call a fever. In his experience, kidney cats with Nigel’s numbers, especially the anemia, should be almost hypothermic, not feverish. He called in a consult to OSU; haven’t heard back yet. He’s had 2 rounds of Convenia, and was put on Veraflox today, too.

Of course, when we got home, Nigel disappeared under the couch again - first time in over a week. I managed to get the Mirtaz in his ear; hoping that helps. He still needs his prednisone and subQ’s tonight.

Poor boy. He must feel really lousy. And yeah, that’s wierd. Fever says there’s an infection.
Either way, I hope he feels a better soon.

Still jingling…
