From the original conversation, it sounds like once, long ago, she may have competed in the sport and perhaps over-exaggerated her participation/ knowledge without realizing she was talking to someone very involved in the sport locally. It was silly, but I agree with all the other posters that it’s hardly dangerous and more foolishness than something to get hung up on, especially if she was otherwise polite and not overbearing about her “knowledge.”
The only time I get irritated about in similar situations is when I encounter people who rode in the 90s who are completely removed from horses and all horse sports and try to lecture me about various things after interrogating me. But that goes back to my point that I think many people who did something way back when may overestimate their knowledge in retrospect. Or maybe don’t realize that when they were in high school was longer ago than they think.
