Ideas for keeping the thighs warm

You guys are a hoot!!!thanks for all the great suggestions. I’m thinking a longer coat might be the ticket.

Yeah, but it neither involves horses nor is SFW

I read the topic and my mind went straight into the gutter.

Panty hose work really well under breeches. Excellent wind blocker without being bulky. They also make long underwear for running. They are thin and light like yoga pamts.

Being Canadian, dressing in layers really helps you stay warm.

Well I have found that a moderate layer of fat works well for me. Perhaps you need to eat more cookies?
Beat me to it

Are these unisex do you think?
They make them to order. Just send the measurements of whatever creature you want to cover

Have you used one? Anyone?

I warm up with a velcro-front quarter sheet over my thighs. Once I start working, I warm up quick enough and take it off. For winter time outdoor/trail rides, I have a trainer’s parka that is ankle length, with a big slit up the back. It covers the legs nicely.

A friend of mine has a western looking one, not sure if it’s from that company but it looks like it. She adores it, she mostly trail rides and rarely takes it off all winter.

I want the wool one. I shall gallop through the snow (if we ever get any) and pretend I’m in the 18th century.

I use LLBean expedition weight thermals. they fit under my breeches and boots. they are not that thick. they are very warm. in fact, when I had those thermals on top and bottom i got hot with a sweater and vest over them in high 40’s plus wind.

Unfortunately the cold can penetrate my fat thighs. I’m looking into Cuddle Duds that stop at the knee.

I’m wearing some Ovation winter breeches (that are pleasantly non-bulky, to my surprise!). When it gets colder, I’ll go to my full chaps, and after than I’ll break down and Velcro a quarter sheet over my thighs.

Will these work?

I have a pair of insulated waterproof nylon (?) chaps from Horseware that I love for the really cold days. As an added bonus, they cut the wind and the waterproofing means that snow doesn’t melt through onto your legs. I bought mine in Ireland after being loaned a pair to ride in the rain all day, but am sure you can find them over here too.

I just put my tall boots away for the winter.

I get the thickest, warmest winter breeches, a pair of paddock boots 1/2 size up to fit thick socks, and a generously sized pair of half chaps to fit over said-thick breeches and boots.

that’s usually enough to keep me warm once I’m going…
If it’s a slower-paced ride, I use a quarter sheet, that keeps my thighs warm, as well as horsey’s back.

I have PLENTY of fat on my thighs, and they still get cold! Tomorrow AM, when it should be roughly 18 degrees, I’m going for BOT long johns and Kerrits winter breaches. The Kerrits are fleece lined and pretty warm, but just ok in the wind.

So… we will see. When I was a kid I used to wear long johns, fleece pants, and jeans to help with the cold. But the only thing that really works for cold and wind are snow pants, or something wind resistant, over warmer pants.

Ride in 2 point for an extended period of time…not kidding! Will drastically increase blood flow to your quads.

I wear extremely ugly and old full chaps. They are black suede and truly hideous. They also let me wear fleece lined leggings to ride and are an excellent wind break, so all is well with the world.

I’m just hoping to freeze mine out of existence…
