If I wanted to erase my account what is the process?

I don’t have a horse anymore. Had to put down in 2010. I think shutting down OT was petty and petulant. And I don’t post here that much.

If I wanted to delete my account and not contribute to COTH ad numbers, what would be the process? As I stated before, some 90 k members claimed. But under 5k considered active. My God. That alone days a lot. I can find my political fix elsewhere. I can find diversion elsewhere.

This used to be a family. An awkward one yes, but a family. Long time posters are no longer here.

What do I need to do to erase my count, my presence for ad revenue?

If my post stands as is, I will be shocked, frankly. I would like an answer.

P.s. there are people still posting on the grooming poll. Is it because a poll? I don’t get this madness.

You log out and don’t come back. If you really want to be gone and don’t trust yourself, change your email and password to gobbledygook so you can’t recover it.

Online ads are generally sold per impression or per click. If you don’t look at them or click on them, you aren’t contributing. Your account existing means essentially nothing.

pretty simple actually, you can go back individually to each post and delete each post, sure it takes some time but it appears you have that

You leave and you don’t come back. Bye!

Hummm… who sounds petty and petulant?

Chronicle of the Horse owns this BB. They can set rules and guidelines as they wish. They are not answerable to the users of this BB. If you don’t like how the BB is run, then feel free to leave

If you leave, the mean girls win… don’t let them win.

We don’t delete accounts or posts upon request. You can delete your own posts individually.

Methinks you and your “7 likes” need to revisit the definition of Mean Girls.

Carry on!

As stated, COTH gets no ad revenue if you’re not here clicking and reading.

Deleting accounts and posts is really disruptive - and probably the people it hurts most are your fellow community members who read what you wrote, or the people who read a thread later and wonder why there are parts that don’t quite make sense any more. COTH “corporate” won’t notice. If you don’t want to play any more, just log out for a while, or stay off the page. Maybe there will be a time when it’s nice to be back.

To have a small contingent of active, writing members and a larger contingent of dormant accounts, and a still larger contingent of people who only read, is pretty standard.

GoodByeCruelWorld rarely goes well for anyone.

Anyway, it’s a big internet and there are lots of wonderful places to be. See you around, here or there.

So just to make sure I understand correctly there is NO way for me to delete my account?

Since I had to pretend to sign up for a new account in order to find this, (before realizing it’s linked at the bottom of the main website but NOT the forums,) here’s a link to the terms of service we agree to when using the COTH website including the forums: https://www.chronofhorse.com/page/terms_of_service

Section 9 basically says that by posting here you give COTH permission to use/display what you post, but that, as Mod 1 said, you can remove your posts if you want.

thanks @wsmoak…basically recent incidents make me want to NOT be a number contributing to the total COTH can tell advertisers etc they have as total subscribers or post any more. Basically I feel like quietly boycotting which I will do by no longer logging on, but wanted to at least spend a few minutes to find out if I could delete my account completely…not going to put much more effort than that into the process.

You’re that mad that your spinoff threads were closed?

For the record it is really not just because the spin offs were closed, it is the advertising and the ratio of nonsense to horse sense. Just not worth sifting through so much mud for the few golden nuggets that do exist.

Sorry you are leaving, bt…I hope you reconsider! I do not think it is possible to totally delete your username.

How many times has someone flounced off to return?

No, a user cannot delete their entire account/profile. A user can only delete the contents of a post AFAIK.
