If we are new to the forum, where should we start?

Dear All Mods,

If we are new to the forum what is the proper etiquette? Should we introduce ourselves first? If so, where? Any specific rules we should be required to follow?

I wanted to start here first so I can fully understand the rules.

I am new to this specific forum and hope to get the most out of it!

thanks

Sherie

Sometimes people introduce themselves in their discipline specific forum or in off course, but most just jump right in and add their thoughts to a current thread, or post a question.

You can find a link to the forum rules are at the top of every page in the yellow box. The rule that seems to be broken the most is the no advertising one

Welcome!

Simkie, beat me to it

Yes, yellow box at the top Update to Forum Rules: Criminal Allegations.

Click on the 1 of 2 right arrow to get to 2 of 2 and then See More.

Detailed rules there.

Intros… if you wish in the actual forums you might participate in but not required.

I might also suggest reading some of the existing topics in the forums you are interested in to get a flavor of the forum and the types of replies you might expect.

This is a great BB with many knowledgeable people. For some, even knowledgeable, diplomacy may appear to be in short supply but everyone is pretty much well meaning. The only forum you might hold off on dipping your toe in would be Off Topic. Can be good discussions but some can also not be for the faint of heart.

Welcome to COTH!

Simkie and Where’sMyWhite have gotten you off on the right foot with their advice! There aren’t any specific rules in terms of how to introduce yourself, though we don’t allow business reps to start threads to promote their companies.

Judging by your username, I’m guessing that you’re affiliated with a company, which is of course absolutely fine. There are lots of industry professionals on our site. You’re welcome to add a link to your website to your signature and profile if you like, so people can find out more about you and what you do.

In terms of our no-advertising policies, you can provide information on your company or products if it’s in direct response to a current, directly related inquiry. You can’t bump up old threads to post plugs for your company, or promote your company on random/unrelated threads, or start threads that serve to promote it.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
Welcome!
