If you could send your baby horse to any hunter trainer in the Northeast...

Who would you send your heart horse to? Mine is not a fancy 6 figure horse, but i love him to death. My friend and I were daydreaming and trying to think of what hunter trainer we would send him to in order to teach him to jump around. He’s an OTTB and I have gotten him BROKE BROKE BROKE on the flat… but I am perfectly happying trotting little jumps at home with the occasional canter jump thrown in there.

So for kicks and giggles, we thought… if I had all the money in the world, who would I send him to in order to get him amateur broke for me to jump around?

Who would you send the love of your life to?

If I wanted to do hunters I would send him to Olin Armstrong. He’s fantastic with youngsters.

Another Olin fan here.

LOL mine’s not exactly YOUNG… although I call him my baby. He’s 8. Just in his second career. Too bad I’m in NJ and don’t have unlimited funds…

Young at heart, that’s what matters!

Add my name to the fan club!!

Jason worked for Olin for a good while, I believe. I moved out of the area before Jason went out on his own so I can’t speak to him. He was very talented, though.

If you watch a few videos I am sure you can see why Olin’s so admired, doublesstable. Like this one, with 45 days U/S on it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lr_j9uNzP8o&feature=related

Calm, confident, happy horses that like their jobs, with an even, relaxed steady pace around the jumps. Consistently. I’ve never had a horse with Olin, just saying that’s who I’d use for a hunter if I had a deep bank account.

Olin is legendary! And Jason learned from the best.

Wow, I love Olin. I sent him my “baby” in 1987. I have been out of the loop for a few years while I started by dog daycare business. [edit]

Hopefully, I will be able to get a new horse in the near future so tell me more about this Jason person. Where is he located?

In downstate New York I would use Debbie Haimowitz. She is great with young ones and second careers… Does not overface the horses… She is in Goshen New York…

AJ Garrity of Four Seasons Farm or Rob Bielefeld.

I have seen how those programs work day in and day out, and the horses are beautifully cared for, no one ever speaks a cross word, no shortcuts are taken, and the training is excellent.

I would send a horse to either of those programs as an absentee owner and not worry about a thing.

I don’t have deep bank accounts either. LOL Which is why this is all a day dream.

I love the way Olin’s horses are SUPER soft and relaxed… I am hopeful that I can one day get my OTTB to canter between the jumps like that. It’s taken me 1 1/2 years to get him really broke on the flat… and relaxed at the trot jumps with a lopey canter off of them… Hopefully, I can get the same lopey canter TO the jumps… LOL

That being said, he does tend to lose him mind at the horse shows… so he may n ever really amount to anything. Man, I would LOVE to send him to Olin for a couple of months

I would hands down recommend Olin Armstrong! He’s had two of my horses and currently still has one of mine. While the one he currently has of mine is a WB, his specialty is TBs so he’s your guy. The Armstrongs are very reasonabley priced and they do exactly what they tell you they are going to do… horses get worked, great turnout, Sally emails regular updates. They are the most honest horse people you’ll ever meet.

I know this is a SUPER old thread but curious what in constituted affordable for Olin back then
