If you had a brown helmet...

…what would you do for the rest of your show kit?

I know most who go brown go ALL brown (boots, jacket, tack, etc). But that’s a lot of brown. :o And I think it’s one of those things that if you have too many variations in shades, it looks a mess.

I also know you could do tweed, but that’s just not practical 90% of the season. What other options are there jacket-wise (that aren’t custom or $$$$)?

Or would it be weird to do navy hat, navy jacket and brown boots?

I have a super lightweight wool tweed RJ Classics jacket that I wear with my brown boots - kind of hunter / jumper rather than field hunter, but whatever. Looks great with the boots - I need a brown hat.

Unfortunately, I wouldn’t do navy with brown - you’d be mixing formal with informal.

For dressage: brown helmet and jacket with black boots, black saddle and a bridle in black with brown padding and a bling browband in black and brown crystals. Saddle pad and breeches in off-white or cream. I think that would look amazing on a dark bay.

For jumping: brown helmet with green jacket, dark brown boots and tack. Probably light tan breeches.

I think the brown with green is a very nice look.

I like brown with navy!

Dressage:
Brown helmet
Brown gloves
Brown fluffy mattes pad

Black bridle with brown piping
Black boots
Black coat with brown piping and brown touches on lapel and sleeves (you can have a Tailor add brown highlights)

Depending on horse color, either a cream saddle pad with brown piping or white. You could easily skip the piping entirely for a cleaner look.

I would do a brown helmet, the brown Sovereign boots and my hunter green Horseware jacket with tan breeches, on the horse I would to either a solid brown or a tan saddle pad with brown trim. I have a chestnut and I have red hair so I am a big fan of the brown/green combo!

I have a brown helmet and jacket but black boots, it looks good I think. (Both helmet and jacket are very dark brown, very subtle.) I happen to have a brown dressage saddle also, but it wasn’t all planned. I’m getting a new saddle next spring and am hoping I can swing another brown one, but I have a deal with the fitter, so I might end up with a demo. (Sigh, the problems we face.)

I know someone who shows in brown helmet and boots and a navy jacket, and she looks very sharp. (Doesn’t hurt that she’s a darn good rider.)

In the USEF Rules for eventing for dressage it says “protective headgear—predominantly black or dark blue”, so watch out for using a brown helmet in dressage. However, I’ve worn a brown helmet before on accident in dressage at a recognized event(w a navy coat and black boots btw!) and didn’t get eliminated…

I have a brown helmet. =)
I show in brown boots, beige breeches, and a hunter green coat w/ pink & mint pinstripes, and tan gloves w/ brown accents…oh, and a champagne/creamish coloured saddle pad. <<-- clearly I don’t mind making a statement! and no, I’ve never been called out on the brown helmet/green coat in dressage (the helmet is VERY dark brown though), though I’ve done mainly unrecognized events. the one recognized event I’ve done I did not have my brown helmet yet and so showed in a black coat and black helmet & boots…but my black coat DID have fuchsia lining on the flaps. xD man, I wish I still had that coat.

so a brown helmet is fine for dressage rides (USDF) but not for eventing (USEF)? am i understanding this correctly?

Predominantly does not equal exclusively. Brown is fine.

I do the brown & navy… https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10208295408797033&set=pb.1058139188.-2207520000.1474473441.&type=3&theater
But I do wear black boots for dressage

For dressage, I have a navy helmet (One K suede/leather) with a dark brown jacket, a gold metallic gold patterned on a pale cream background stock tie and would love to add a pair of brown boots to the ensemble (and maybe a pair of light cream breeches instead of white ones). For stadium, it’s the same, but with a navy jacket.

I’ve gotten compliments every time I’ve worn the dressage outfit.

good! because i’ve been riding in a brown helmet for years now and just invested in a brown samshield so that would suck if it was not acceptable.
