If you have a Mac and cable....

After a day of frustration with trying to get ExPat Shield to work on a MAc (it doesn’t), I signed up for a VPN Authority connection:
Here is the web site - www.vpnauthority.com

It allows your to “transform” your computer from a USA one that is unable to access BBC coverage, to one that gets all the BBC live feed and their SUPERB commentary.

Downside - you have to pay for a month’s coverage - about $20 - but I figure I can use it to watch all the post-Olympic coverage and features. Sometimes the live feed freezes, but you can always hear the commentary.

So for the Three Day Event coverage, I had NBC Live Stream on the desktop computer, and sat beside it with the BBC on my laptop - it was FANTASTIC!

I’m not a cable TV fan - we have the most basic package - no HBO, but it does have the crucial MSNBC and NBCSN channels. I was about to get rid of the cable (I hardly ever watch TV) but like to get the BBC news and CNN. So glad I didn’t follow through!

If anyone needs help with the VPN connection for their Mac, I am now an expert!!

I’m glad I’m not the only one who couldn’t get expat shield to work on a MAC…

We have a VPN authority connection to (at least I think thats what it is). We share it with my uncle, whose been using it for years to watch the BBC. This is the first time in my life I’m not in the UK for the summer olympics (oh the irony!) so I’m glad I can at least get the British commentary. We enjoyed watching the first British gold tonight!

mac and flash player

I have installed the most recent flash player on my mac, but the NBC site ( and others) still say I need to download it to see the olympics. does anyone know what to do? By the time I figure it out, the olympics will be over. What is expat?

I got the same info, even though I thought I was up to date with the flash player. I just downloaded what they said from where they said to go get it, and then it all worked fine.

Expat Shield is a program that lets you access UK content from a non-UK computer, but it is not compatible with Macs. I used the VPN Authority connection instead (web site is posted in the first post of this thread) and it works beautifully on a Mac.

If you have a mac and no cable (no tv), try streamingvpn.com for BBC. Also cheaper, 1 month is $10. It’s worked perfectly for me.

I have a MacBook Pro, running OS 10.6.8

I am running ExPat Shield and BBC with no problems. I am a happy camper!
