These were from 2020 according to the post correct?
Dear God in Heaven! If my horse were there, I think I’d …. She must be beyond despicable. To show up as a judge or a competitor w a nice horse and leave these horses like this? There MUST be a special place in hell for her.
What makes me the most sad about these horrible photos is, that this was long enough ago that the current batch of horses could have saved from this situation if people had not silenced the owners of the horses in those photos from 2020.
Think about that you people who bullied these owners into silence.
Also GuideStar. GuideStar also posts the 990s if they are available.
Is the horse in the bottom photo dead?
A friend of mine that I know from outside the forum sent me this and asked me to post it:
While I am still shocked that she would starve horses, I have known Byrd to be not quite aboveboard about any number of things.
Why didn’t I say anything? Byrd rode at a much higher level than I did, was younger, prettier and had a nicer, larger farm; so I was sure that anything I said would be perceived as jealous whining. Byrd is also pretty good at subtly name dropping her connections; I always thought the threat of being blackballed was quite real. So much so that I won’t even post this under my own user name.
In my opinion, this makes Byrd an even worse human.
This is terrible. Atrocious.
I am disgusted that a knowledgeable (relative) horse person would subject these poor helpless horses to such cruelty.
Can someone PM the go fund me link? I’m not familiar with the platform but I am compelled to add my dribble
I can only go off what I am told, which is that at the time he was alive.
Railbird and I both spoke to a reporter with the Richmond Times Dispatch today. I’m always leery of non-horse people writing horse stories, but I have a contact at the Times Dispatch who is horse-savvy and she is helping him. So fingers crossed.
I’m glad this is getting attention now. I’m sad horses had to suffer this long.
Only charities with income over $50,000 need to fill out the full 990. Those under that amount can just file an e-postcard 990, which doesn’t collect any of those details. I just filled one out last week. I doubt her “charity” brought in over 50k.
Her charity was formed in 2022 according to the state.
Has anyone reported to PETA?
I don’t think PETA would be the right organization. Better to report to local media, horse media, national media, and keep blaring the horn on social media.
PETA doesn’t want us to own horses let alone ride them. They would not be the right organization. We had a couple of these cases in my area mostly with hoarding and it takes a village at times to get the horses out.
This x 1000. Please don’t get them anywhere near this case. In the long run it will go badly for all of us.
Hard pass on PETA I’d rather keep yelling into the void
I just saw on Facebook that one is being euthanized tomorrow. Apparently, he has other complications besides starvation and his connections believe it is kindest to lay him to rest instead of suffer any more.
May his crossing be peaceful and he feel the love of all of us.
I didn’t plan to buy a horse today but I did! And then I told my husband he bought it for me for valentines day, thanked him, and then asked if he wanted to go meet him.
Meet Poofy! His owners felt they did not have the resources to participate, so I offered to purchase him and just take over. I am quite delighted. My 2022 resolution was no more horses that I can’t ride but it’s 2023 now. I have had several people reach out offering to take in any horses in need so we will see his long term plans. I did promise him and his former people that he would never end up hungry again or too far out of sight, so I have to do some serious background research because frankly I’m a little scarred, but I have no grass in my yard in the suburbs.
He was the last kind of unidentified horse. 2 more moved this morning so up to 18 total. The remaining horses at the property, to the best of my understanding, either are her personal horses or have owners who have been made aware of the situation and have chosen to keep their horses there, plus the one who is crossing the bridge tomorrow which is a kindness.
