If you were clinging to hope that maybe USEF

Was really considering the best interests of riders in planning the Eventing calendar?

Some of you may have received this link to a Survey Monkey survey in your email. So far, it seems random as to which members have received it.

While it may seem relatively harmless, what this does is to finally give Stable View what it has wanted for a long time. Week 10 WAS Red Hills week. We fought USEF with everything we had, short of a full on lawsuit in Federal Court, and finally had to give up and shut down because they absolutely, positively, refused to give us the 4*S that we had run on week 10 for almost 20 years.

And yet, here we are, less than 18 months later, and they are asking riders – or at least some riders, what their opinion would be to transferring that date to Stable View, and restoring the 4*S to that place in the calendar.

Red Hills was told over and over and over, there would be no change. We were told to run this year on spec and then maybe, they’d see if they could consider restoring that level. We were told “It is too early in the year for a 4*S” and “it doesn’t work there in the calendar.”

Though we had run it there for years.

In any event, I’m not sure what I want to encourage you all to do, because the event that I put my heart and soul and untold hours of my life into is gone now. Our jumps have been sold and all of the Park looks almost as if we never existed.

I guess what I’m doing here is just calling out what a farce this entire process has been since the beginning.

FWIW, we also suggested a swap with another event, as they are apparently trying to engineer here, with Chatt Hills and SV swapping places. We were told “absolutely not, because under the new system, no dates will be awarded without a bid process.”

Apparently that was subject to change as soon as they got rid of our event. Maybe we were too old fashioned and couldn’t offer the powers that be enough perks. I’m not sure, but I am sure of one thing. I’m still mad about it.

Oh Libby, you are so brave and true to yourself and all those others who worked so hard to make Red Hills a community event… from one lawyer to another…I would have liked to see your complaint in Federal Court.
I am pretty disgusted how so many of the Florida upper level riders just dumped Red Hills for TerraNova, Stable View, etc. before the ink was even dry on Red Hills.

Thank you for that. USEF was pretty sure that the White Fences case protected them from any anti-trust lawsuit. However, there is an interesting angle to that and I found a loophole that I think would have made us successful, but that is the problem, isn’t it? Someone has to have the faith that your research is right, and that we’d have had a chance, AND be willing to pay for the right to prove it in court.

And in the end, that didn’t happen.

I’m probably going to stay mad a long time about how all of this was handled.

I am not surprised.

Insert standard Reed Ayers “Burn the FEI/USEF” rant here.

Hugs to you and everyone involved with Red Hill. I am another one that would love to see this go to court . The USEF/ FEI keep talking about wanting to grow eventing, how can they do that if all they squeeze out the local events ?

Edited to add I found this local news report on YouTube. The horse trails brought in a ton of money for the local community. Wow just how short sighted is it to get rid of an event that was popular enough to get local news coverage.

Point of clarification here. The USEA does not, and can not, set the schedules. Only the USEF and FEI can do that.

Thank you for the clarification, I will edit the post.

What a kick in the teeth

Gutting. :frowning:

Eventing is being lost from within, and without.

How frustrating and disappointing. Red Hills was a gem, and the community support behind it and the non-horse people who came out to watch it and see what the sport was all about were everything that USEF should be encouraging and supporting @Bensmom you and everyone else involved with the event have every right to be angry for a long time!
