If you were going to splurge on tall boots, what would you get?

I have had the same pair of ariat tall boots for 18 years (crazy, right!? mink oil does wonders for leather longevity). I don’t school in them, but I have shown frequently in them and at long last, they are starting to show their age. I’ve decided I deserve a treat, so I’m thinking about splurging on some tall boots. Since the last time I bought tall boots was before the days of online shopping, I would love to hear what the best brands are and where I can find them.

So, if you were going to splurge on tall boots, what would you get?

I splurged last year on a pair of DeNiro boots, and I absolutely adore them!

So did I!!!
I get so many compliments about them

There’s a thread over on H/J about these boots:

Custom for often less than the price of off the rack. Good reviews on the thread!

It really depends on what fits you. I have a pair of Sergio Grasso’s…fit me like a glove, butter to break in. LOVE them. They are on sale at Smart Pak now.

Thanks, all!! The De Niro’s look awesome as do the Sergio Grasso’s!

Kashmere - I am OBSESSED with these: https://www.eikishow.com/en/tall_riding/contender/

I. Know. I want a pair so badly. The sensible part of my brain keeps pointing out how many lessons that will pay for and that my current boots are just fine and that besides the mare needs a new bridle before I get new boots. The rest of my brain doesn’t care even a LITTLE. It’s a real power struggle as to which part controls the wallet.

I really love my Monacos. Comfortable and pretty!

Dehners. They last forever. They don’t make a fashion statement, but they are so very utilitarian.

I <3 my custom Vogels - circa 1989 and still looking good.
Worn to school & show a LOT for about 5yrs, then retired to Show Only for the next 10 & now I wear them to lesson infrequently (2X/mo) & show(rarely).
The lining is just beginning to show some wear, but otherwise they are in great shape, little thanks to care from me.
They were comfy as slippers from Day One & breakin was minimal for the shafts.
I sent them back first time for gussets, then years later for back zips.
Both modifications done beautifully by Vogel.

For everyday barn/riding I have custom Dehner pull-on paddocks.
1st pair lasted 10yrs before I got tired of replacing the zippers (that only Dehner carries), 2nd pair the same, then I got smart & went to the pull-on style.
3rd pair is now going on 15yo & still shine up well.
Can’t vouch for their tall boots, but the paddocks are so wellmade I’d expect the same of their other boots.

Devon-Aire’s new Signature Granada field boot. One of the few out there that are actually made in Europe, of Italian calfskin. Super soft, quick break in. Features of a much more expensive boot for only $450.

Eikis probably. They are super common in CA and very nice. I had Dehners forever when I was younger and they are good boots but I wasn’t in love with the company- I had some issues with mine and they weren’t super helpful.

Another vote for the Sergio Grassos! So comfortable and you can do a semi custom boot for a custom look at a lower price point.

After working at MTE for two years and seeing how many pairs of brand new, never used, gorgeous custom boots from various companies that didn’t fit we got in because said company wouldn’t make it right, and the hit those people took selling them, I probably will NEVER buy custom boots, if I had the cash to do so. There are lots of really great looking boots off the rack that I would gladly have, and, even with my funky fit, I can often find something to fit. And I know where to get them altered if they don’t!

For an absolute splurge, I would get Konigs. For a realistic splurge, when my current custom Vogels get downgraded to schooling boots (this is quite a long way off still), I’ll probably end up with a pair of DeNiros. They’re a pretty affordable option for some really nicely made boots.

ETA: I do also have a pair of brown Dehners for cubbing season, and I can attest, like the poster above, that they really do wear like iron.

Sorry not much help! There are so many tempting choices!!

bTW, the Sergio Grassos are nice but need to have a size like the Ariat tall fulls. The only ones that are at all tall enough for me don’t fit. Not every very long legged person can fit their calves in a regular. And I am not even fat really, just not a stick figure.
