It’s up to the company that owns the BB software (vBulletin), not COTH, whether and when ignore ever gets fixed.

Here is the vBulletin forum:

We’re on version 5.2.5. They’re the people to ask about ignore!
The downside of public forums is, everyone has a voice.
Those that find that not to their liking and want more than scrolling by, as the rest of us do, like ignore functions, will have to keep reminding the administration to work on it when it is broken.
Then, there is always facebook, that has a built in ignore function in it’s design.
but, but, but… there is nothing the COTH admin staff can do about this particular problem until vBulletin addresses it…
but it is the way it is…
Simkie gave an answer to that, where else to go to ask and/or complain.
I don’t understand why the "ignore " function is such an issue. Everyone is capable of ignoring on their own, without help.
It is possible that some are more tolerant than others though we all have our soft spots.
.
I have used the ignore function 3 times and only because the “ignorees” were rather psycho and sending Pm’s. In time they were banned by the moderator and that was that.
If regular members start arguing about nothing and being rude I give up and read something else. They often come back to their senses and I think the COTH moderators are very effective.
Oh, I do understand that some go ahead and use the ignore function if it is there, at least for a bit.
Some do it for long, most don’t, because it blinds the user more than the ignored.
Ignoring doesn’t always work as the one doing the ignoring intended.
I think what is happening now that this version came out without that feature and it seems so very hard to insert it now, but we are told they are working on it, what happens is that some use that failure to gripe about other posters.
Some focus on the idea that with an ignore function they would not be bothered and maybe so.
In reality it is on us to adapt to posting any one way we are given to do so, even with a missing ignore function.
The ignore function is a multi-task tool, one used as intended to ignore, another used by telling the ones targeted for ignoring to bug off, to give notice they offended us, in case our response to their posting was not clear.
You are right that either way, with or without ignore, when a poster is more than not doing what we think they should, but breaking rules, trust the moderators, once notified, will do what is necessary.
I do think that, even without the ignore function working, forums are carrying on just fine.
The ones in charge are doing a great job of running things.
I find I miss the ‘ignore’ less now that Current Events is taking a long nap
For me, when you are reading a topic, you, well at least I, read each reply without checking first who the reply was from to see if I wanted to read it or not. Now, I start reading and if I personally start getting annoyed, I do check who it is from and perhaps just move along.
For a limited few, I am really not interested in both what they say but how it is said.
I miss ignore but I’m living without it
