Ilian De Taute

Looking for opinions on this horse horse blend for an eventing prospect… horse with ilian de taute bloodlines crossed with a tb/trak… I don’t know much about this line.

I had a (2005) son of Ilian de Taute out of an Anglo x Irish mare (Pennmerryl’s Rose by Happy Ending (RID) out of Aunt Rosa (TB) - working from memory so…)

Hard to say what came form the sire and what from the dam.

Was second at the Waredaca FEH, and 4th at the finals

REALLY good jumper, but a little bit too heavy (both size and agility) to be a top jumper.

Very friendly
Very smart - learned how to open the stall doors and let everyone out!

Once we moved up to Training he got a bit strong on cross country. I put him in a pelham and he responded well to that. But not 100% reliable cross country (which may be me more than him).

Competent at dressage, but did not enjoy it. Good mover.

He is now foxhunting with a SERIOUS hunter (out mulriple times a week, on staff of 2 hunts) who loves him.

What else would you like to know?

we have a daughter and she is eventing -

Lillian

very cute! she is big eh? The mare im looking at is 16h at 3 years so i’m guessing not much height left. How do you find the temperament for cross-country?

If you are looking to breed an amateur friendly temperament, then by all means consider Ilian. He is an absolute gentleman and pleasure to be around. All of the offspring I have known have been very trainable and sweet as well.

He has plenty of offspring out there eventing, but some are also out there in h/j land. Ilian himself did both eventing and bigger jumpers (did the
NAJRC last year). I take this as a plus, as it gives you more options if the baby isn’t exactly what you want (though to be honest, you might get a lot of h/j people stop listening and run at the words tk/tb, which is very sad, but the way things are).

Ilian isn’t a big guy, but I’ve seen some pretty big kids by him. I’ve also seen (in person and photos) some variety of build that probably comes from a variety of mares. I think in many cases he has improved upon the mare.

Overall, I would highly recommend him to someone looking for a nice, reasonably athletic baby that they will be able to bring up and train themselves.

Well I am pretty sure i’ll never make it to the Olympics… however I don’t want to be too limited either. Like I don’t want something that’s only going to make it to training level.

My orginal plan was to just get another ottb… my retired horse is an ottb… but it seems like a lot of horses are starting to have a bit more wb in the line and I’ve a couple to look at.

Here are a couple of pictures of Chief (Premier de Kegan)

There was a daughter of his (Princess de Taute) eventing in Ontario/Quebec a few years ago with a young rider who appeared to have mostly produced her himself. The mare got up to Intermediate; not sure what happened to her after that.

I saw Ilian himself a number of times when Garry Roque was riding him and I was following him as I had always been a big fan. He evented Intermediate and there was talk of him doing the bigger stuff, but his record was a bit patchy. Seemed to have a fantastic temperament, though; had no problem being in a crowded warmup ring or standing around close to other horses (including mine, since we competed against him). I never saw him act like anything other than a gentleman. I also find it pretty impressive that he was able to make the transition from Grand Prix jumpers to upper level eventing.

Yes she is big - 17.3hh - but very athletic. She is sensitive in dressage but loves to jump and is very bold cross country. My son is over 6’ and 200lbs and I will say that she has no problems with that- and she is very smart. What really impressed me is her intelligence in figuring out cross country and her ability to save the situation. I almost lost my cookies one time when she slipped - went down on her hip - my son was hanging off the side - she righted, righted him and continued on at the gallop - they jumped the last fence with my son with out a stirrup and I still had not caught my breath.

Do you know anything about piper b? Garry ride him too? And btw how do you like Michelle? And how does Michelle like your horse? Funny thing amistad was sired by ascot knight and my retired eventer was an ak baby too

Don’t know that horse. Michele and I go way back to Pony Club days. The boys really liked her - they train with Ian now but really had a lot of fun with Michele. She loves Lilly.
