There is a square box at the end of each unopened message. On the right side.
Check it to select it.
Then, scroll down until the end of all your messages.
You should see a ‘‘Selected messages’’ button : Clic on it.
A menu will pop up.
Just select : Delete
and then clic on ‘‘Proceed’’.

Annoying. (Not annoyed at COTH, just those who do this stuff). Sigh. If only they would use their obvious intelligence for good.

Not a hack, just a really dedicated spammer who created an account and then proceeded to send PMs to lots of people. They do have ways of automating it and doing in volume. Delete them and once the mods delete the user the problem is solved, until they create another account at least. I’m pretty sure similar names have spammed the board recently.

I haven’t been spammed. I have chosen not to have my email displayed. I wonder if that has anything to do with it? I am not tech savvy so have no idea if this may have made a difference.
All the alerts we received regarding PM spam all originated from one account, which has been deleted. You can just delete the messages, and I don’t think there should be any further issue.
We get numerous spam registrations every day, even with the annoying registration questions we have and other measures employed. This account opted to send spam via PM vs. attempt to post on the site.
Though I’m not a techie, I don’t think the spammer was related to the redirect hack we experienced earlier, and it’s not related to the glitches we’re experiencing with the site.
The glitches are a result of some compatibility issues between our site and the updated software version we employed to help ward against further hacking efforts. The glitches are still being worked through by the developers. I’m not sure of the status of their work on that front, but they will hopefully be resolved soon.

How do you choose not to have your e-mail displayed? I don’t believe my e-mail is displayed, but in settings I couldn’t find any button to click that said “do not display e-mail”.

I checked your account, and your email is set to private.
For others interested in checking their email privacy, you can click on “settings” from the left side of the blue bar near the top of the page, then click on “general settings” from the menu on the left.
If you have “receive email from other members” checked, then your email address will be accessible to other registered users of the site. Uncheck that box if you’d like your email address to remain private.
