If you ever want to go trail riding let me know. I’ll take you to the tree farm or lord hill. I’m sure he would love it. Jango has hit the jackpot.
Mtn Trails, that would be awesome! We’re planning to try him under saddle soon and so I’ll let you know!
Wow he looks great and so much happier!!
Cool Update!
Ok, I have a really cool update today and suffice to say, my mind = blown. I go back and forth about whether or not I believe in fate, but this one is pretty hard to ignore…
So before I took in Jango here was another horse in the kill pen with the same group. He was another one that burrowed into my brain but he ended up getting sprung while we hemmed and hawed about taking him. Shortly after that Jango’s picture appeared in the feed and again, I just couldn’t get him out of my head so as you all know brought him home. Well randomly about 3 weeks ago I got a FB message from the woman who took this other horse asking if I’d like him. She felt in over her head and had looked through the commenters on his photo - there were 89 of them - and for some reason she picked me to message. As hard as it was to pass on him, I’m now up to 4 horses and I just couldn’t take him… But I knew he HAD to be “in the family”, so before I said no I talked to my friend and we found him someone in our group of horse people who was absolutely smitten with him. She went to look at him and fell in love - he’s an absolute saint. She went through some trials and tribulations to get him (owner was wishy washy, kept changing her mind, had some unreasonable requests, etc) but last night I got a text and the woman had realized she really did need to rehome him. Friend had him on her trailer and was peeling out of there before the lady could change her mind again! We were elated!
Now the twist…
After this woman messaged me I was looking at this horse’s archived listing. I noticed that Jango was right next to him in all but one photo. I thought “how funny” but I didn’t think much more about it. With the text last night it popped back in my head though. I decided to look at both of their listings. Sure enough, they’re right next to each other and nose to nose in practically every single photo! Curious, I sent a message to the admin at the auction horses site… She confirmed this morning that they came in together from the same former home!!!
The news gave me goosebumps. I’ve been checking out that auction site on a pretty regular basis for a couple of years. I always feel bad and say I want to do something but have never bit the bullet. I don’t know what it is about these two that made them stand out… But apparently the universe wanted them to stay connected and apparently I was tasked with facilitating. So very cool, and yes - we’re planning a reunion
I’ll post an update picture too for the fun of it. Jango is shiny as a copper penny and has officially dethroned my youngster and become herd boss. He’s quite the character! We’re going to ride him for the first time on Sunday, I’ll make sure to take pics!

Oh dear. You’re going to make me tear up at work.
That’s very cool about Jango’s buddy. Small world… and it’s just so strange how things work out! You’ll have to video their reunion!
I’m glad to hear he’s doing well! But I am SO disappointed that your picture link doesn’t work-- it says content unavailable. Can you fix it pretty please?

Doh! I should know better than to link to FB It should be fixed now!
Boy, does he look great there!
You know, that star looks like a thumbs up.
What a story in the making there.
Yes, please, keep us informed.
Have you ridden Jango yet? So exciting to hear about a potential reunion!
OMG Bluey - It does look like a thumbs up! I never noticed that, I love it
Calvin - Haven’t ridden yet but my friend and I have a date to hop on him on Sunday. I’m getting super excited!
I’ms so happy for both horses and for you. Mango looks super, and so happy!
What a great update, and Django looks stunning.
Awwww! He looks fantastic! Fingers crossed Sunday goes well!
What a beautiful animal - so glad you got him!
We rode yesterday!!! Jango was such a little super star for my friend and I!
We started out on the lunge to see how he’d do. He was a very good boy, but kept stopping and turning in to face me despite me asking for forward… Fortunately my friend recently started taking some reining lessons and let me know that in her limited experience the western crowd tends to lunge on a loose line and teach the horse to stop and face them with any pressure on the line. Sure enough, he trotted and trotted as long as there was no pressure on the line. The second I’d take up slack, he’d halt and turn  It was immediately clear that he definitely has training and a bunch of western buttons that I will need to figure out! He was fantastic on the lunge so we hopped on. I started him like I would a baby - leaned over him, slowly put weight on his back, etc. He was looking at me like I’m a total weirdo, so we got on and went. We didn’t ask him for much, each of us rode him, mostly at the walk and a little bit of trot. He was a total gentleman for both of us. He’s very responsive when you apply the correct aid - again thank goodness for my friend because she now has some idea of what those are and was able to pass that along to me. Let me tell you, it is SO difficult to just sit there relaxed and not micromanage every little piece like I do on my dressage horse - this will be a challenge for my Type A side! He did a very good job humoring us in the dressage saddle and our funny outfits and he rocked the dressage bridle sans noseband over top of his halter. Poor guy must’ve wondered what the heck we were doing. I will say that he seemed super happy to have gotten out for a ride - I have a feeling he has a ton of heart and will be a whole lotta fun! All in all a successful day for two DQ’s trying to figure out our western pony!
I had some small concerns about his soundness going into the ride but was relatively sure that the missteps I had seen here and there in the field were due to tender soles (my field gets a little rocky and it’s due for a clean up in that regard). On the nice sand footing he was absolutely sound though - so I’m going to pick up some easy boots or something similar next week and we’ll start heading out for adventures on the trail! Any suggestions on the best/most durable boots would be awesome. We’re also planning to take him up to my friend’s reining trainer. They also do cutting and we’re really wanting to see if he’s got any skills with the cows. Really looking forward to that!
And since these posts are pointless without pictures and video, here ya go. Please excuse my bright blue boot… I forgot to grab my regular boots from my trainer’s barn and had to bandage my broken-zippered Ariats on my leg… And of course I was out of black vetwrap

He looks great and looks like he’ll be tons of fun to ride. I like the Cavallo boots - they are super easy to put on, don’t chafe, and don’t come off. However, I hear lots of good things about the Renegade boots too.
So now we need to hook up and go ride!
What a cutie - although he did look a bit perturbed by the tack and the shorter rein. Perhaps you’ll have to take a lesson with the reining trainer to figure out all the buttons.
So cute! And I can totally picture you 2 DQ trying to figure out a western pony. To funny!
Are you going to find some western tack for him down the road?
P.
UrbanHennery - that’s super funny because I felt like my reins were soooooo looooooong I could hardly stand it We’re gonna let the reining trainer get on him and play with him a bit and then I probably will take a lesson.
Polydor - I’m hoping he’ll be a “does everything” kinda horse. I’d love to play with cows on him and we’ll trail ride for sure. If he really is sound I would love to see how he does over fences… He reminds me very much of my now retired QH, who was a rockstar lower level eventer. I would like to get him a western saddle at some point. My mom gave me her western saddle when she retired and we took over the farm… However I went and sold it about 18 months ago because I didn’t use it and it pretty much paid for the shipping cost of the yearling I bought! I could kick myself now!
For sure MtnTrails! I’m going to order his boots after I get paid this week… As soon as they arrive we’ll be all ready to go!
