I'm officially crazy.... Update - We Rode!!!

What an awesome update!

I just wanted to post a little Jango update, and one about Jigsaw (his buddy I posted about previously)! JJ is doing FABULOUS! He’s just the most chill horse - the kind you can turn out for two weeks and then hop on and he’s rock solid. My friend/his co-mom procured a western saddle for him so we took him out for the first time in it on Sunday. He was very, very good and much less insecure than he was last time we rode. I was surprised because I have been super busy so he’s pretty much been sitting for a month. I think he’s just really settling and building trust through our day to day interactions, which is fantastic. I’m especially proud because he really started to figure out how to stretch over his back into the contact. He is finally relaxed enough to be able to and it was like a little light bulb went off all of the sudden… He was like “Oh! This is much more comfortable!”. I’m going to commit to getting on him more often and I’m planning to just work in the walk and a little trot, helping him build strength. Here are a couple of pics from our ride, the first with my friend on him and the other with me… This is the first time I’ve sat in a western saddle in about 10 years… Sooo comfortable!

He and my young horse have become absolute BFFs, they just love each other… So we’re planning to take JJ along to some schooling shows this spring to keep youngster company and hopefully help calm his nerves… But we’re also going to let Jango strut his stuff in a western dressage class or two  I’m very excited, which is funny because I have to admit… I gave the whole WD some major eye rolling when I first heard about it. I think it will be perfect and low stress for Jango though so we’re diving in! I just know he’s gonna be a star, I’m constantly in awe about what a good egg this one is.

Now on to Jigsaw. As I posted previously, Jigsaw came to the auction from the same place as Jango and through a roundabout set of events ended up with a friend of mine. He is a little bit tougher than Jango - just younger, less trained, and much more insecure. It is clear that Jango was the herd leader and I think Jigsaw really leaned on him for comfort/support. Fortunately the friend he ended up with is a pro and very good with horses with issues so he’s in the perfect hands. I think once he develops more trust and gains more confidence he’ll be a great little horse. I went to meet him a few weeks ago and took some photos. We’re preeeetty sure he’s some kind of draft/paint cross. He’s not tall - maybe 14.3 - but he’s a VERY stocky dude and has very drafty movement. In other words, he’s ADORABLE

Here you can see his very cool face markings:

I’m free this weekend but after that, won’t be available until the weekend of Sept. 27-28. However, after that, no plans. PM me your number.

Mtn trails - I’ll PM you my number. I’m not sure I’ll be around this weekend - SO reeeaaally wants to go backpacking before the weather turns but maybe we can do end of September  I’m a little limited right now in where we can go because I haven’t gotten properly fitting boots for Mr. JJ. The first pair I ordered were WAY too big. Apparently I don’t know how to use a tape measure  I’ve gotta get these sent back this week but I should have him all decked out by the end of the month!

I just found this thread and as an avid stalker of the auctionhorses site, this whole story warms my heart. I have a mare that I got from there via a friend actually. It sounds like you and JJ are getting along well and he is such a cutie!

I’m in Snohomish county and I’d love to go trail riding with you guys too! If you haven’t been yet, Lord Hill is fun because you can take the horses in the river!

That would be great! A CoTH trail ride! I’m not a huge fan of Lord’s Hill but it’s a convenient in between location so let’s plan for the end of Sept. @ the 27th? Who else??

Stories like this cannot be beat. Horse saved from auction pen, and lives happily with new owner. Great for horse and owner.

OH! I might be able to come! It all depends on if we have our fencing in or not…

How’s Mr Jango doing? Would love to hear an update.

Aww, thank you for asking! Jango is fat and happy and doing great - other than nursing an abscess at the moment. I think we’re at that stage of getting healthy where that last little bit of ick is getting out of his system. It’s so interesting - his new hoof growth seems to be super tough and strong, but the bottom half or so of old hoof is much, much weaker. I’m putting him and my youngster (who also popped an abscess in the last two weeks ) on Platinum Performance hoof when my next round of supplements ships so we’ll see if that helps him toughen up as the new hoof grows. I have been traveling for work, plus the abscess, so I haven’t been able to ride much lately but he’s just so chill when we do get to go out. I love that he’s a hop on and go kind of guy!

Here he is trying out his hand me down blanket for the first time

And here he is being pested by my youngster  It’s a wonder he puts up with him, but they are just the best of friends - practically attached at the hip!

He’s looking very suave in his new duds. Our trail club is having its annual prize ride at the tree farm on the last Saturday of the month. It’s a lot fun so you should come and bring Jango.
