I'm on Foal Watch!

Yeah, it’s just prioritizing, and it makes sense!

I have to agree with your farrier. I love that filly. And I agree that her mom is a nice horse! Just not a dressage horse…She’s a chunk. I love chunks.

The Brenna Show.
Now that the novelty has worn off, and now that she knows he is a going concern, Brenna’s baaaack to her normal self. While her princeling was nursing

she hung her head overthe fence daring any sheep to even THINK about coming near.

And when he was done nursing, she was like: “Come, son.”

And swooosh off they went to see if the gate was open yet.

Pretty sure I had a human customer with that exact same snooty-nose-in-the-air posture yesterday. Even the hauty voice to go with it

Here is a short vid of Hazel taken during their afternoon turnout. He was 12 days old yesterday.

i posted this on the other foal watch topic, the main one that everybody shares. My SO thinks they are skinny. I don’t. What do you guys think?

Very normal baby foal. You don’t want them fat. They look good.

Agreed. They’re perfect.

Oh good! thanks you guys.

Ok next question:

His sloping back pasterns… those will correct in time? (they were really angled when he was born, and are getting closer to normal every day, so i’m thinking: yeah, they’ll correct in time)

And her bucked knees. They were fine, nice and straight…until her first day in turnout, two days ago …6days old. And she ran and ran and ran. next day: Bucked knees. They are better today than yesterday, so i’m hoping they will self-correct as well.

Roslyn and Rizada’s first steps into pasture

In this video you can see how close this little 5 acre pasture (which we call “Bull Pasture”) is to the barn. It’s located at the end of that creek turnout the foals got to first learn to run in. In this video, i have only allowed RIzada and Roslyn into their pasture to learn it a little bit before releasing Brenna and Hazel to join them.

Brenna and Hazel come into the pasture with Rizada and Roslyn already there. Brenna and Hazel take a sweep around and RIzada moves up the hill, Brenna spots them and CHASES Riz and Roz allllll the way back to the barn. And once she sees she’s gotten them back to where they ‘belong’ she takes her young princeling back to the pasture. No one was hurt. And i was then, quite happy. Happy that Brenna was not into blood and dismemberment, just proving she was bossmare. I think all will be well going forward with these two mares.

Rizada wants to go back to the pasture, Brenna investigates the far end of the pasture and then claims the shed. Rizada gets closer, Brenna sees and and i drive up and block the gate so Brenna can’t chase them back again.

Prior to this video, Brenna had left pasture and moved Rizada and Roslyn alllll the way to the far end of the turnout…Kept them there a couple of minutes, and then she led them into ‘her’ pasture… or at least allowed them to follow. Here you see their first time grazing side-by-side …Rizada is ready to run though…and with the foals
Roslyn is very interested in Hazel. And he ignores her.

You will see in this video how Roslyn is trying to play and engage Hazel in a game of chase. (to no avail) and eventually, Brenna says: "Enough! Leave my son alone.”

Rizada and Roslyn carefully reenter the pasture and when Brenna notices Hazel’s interest she takes a little charge and threat at Rizada and Roslyn, and then body-blocks Hazel from them. LOL…

Undaunted by the politics between Auntie Brenna and her mom, Roslyn remains joyful and effervescent.

You’re welcome. These were all taken yesterday… and at the last video above, i finally addressed my eyes into the next pasture, only to see my old Morgan mare, Bambi, crashing. I had to put her down… It was a very sad day. She was born to me, 24 years ago and i’ve loved and cared for her her whole life. Yesterday was a bitterrsweet day…

Oh, no, I am so so sorry to hear about Bambi.
That is a lovely picture of her, and the atmosphere of the photo … she looks like a daughter of Figure standing out in front of an early-Vermont schoolhouse.

Sending you hugs and jingles.
