I'm spookier than he is! Sheesh!

Got on today, went out to the rail and I nearly had a heart attack. A bird tried to land on the fence wire…box, farm type…and it’s wings were fluttering and hitting the fence. A sound a little like a playing card in bike spokes. Just for a moment but that’s enough to startle me! Same thing in the late fall with the leaves are caught at the bottom of the fence and rattle and blow in the wind.

Horse? Meh…what bird? I’m so lucky to have a horse who understand his world and doesn’t freak out. Guess I’m still a ‘little’ nervous about riding. :o

Lol we have cats that drop off the high arena walls and always startle me, the horse, nah… But that new rock in the corner- look out!

My little cutting horse will really jump if we flush a bird or rabbit out of a sagebrush.
My (formerly, mostly) deeply troubled TB just looks and says, yeah, rabbit.
I, on the other hand, spook myself in the saddle. I feel like the TB is telling me, hey, no big deal, everything’s good, just a bunnywabbit…

I keep forgetting that when I ride, I’m in their territory. This stuff is all common place for them. I’m the one who’s not used to deer popping up or leaves blowing and I forgot that this is the horse who lets birds roost on his back while he’s grazing. And they walk up and down his spine. Might be some animal kingdom kind of massage.

My mom jumps and occasionally lets out a quick “Aaaah!” at every loud noise. Her horse couldn’t care less

Maybe it’s a mom thing then.

I’m not terribly spooky, but my draftx is, which for some odd reason makes me spooky. He trips over something and scares himself. The chickens come into the barn making a racket and even though he lives with them every single day he spooks. I’m not sure he’s the sharpest tool in the shed.

In contrast, my two quarter horses are totally not spooky at all, and my saddlebred doesn’t spook, but looks at everything and snorts at it.

Don’t you wish they could talk? I love a horse that doesn’t spook but only after he’s proved to me that he’s seeing and hearing stuff and not spooking. I always wonder if they just haven’t noticed yet but when they do, better be hangin on and ready to ride!
