My first attempt at breeding my maiden mare has been a disaster. Our breeding season for this year is over, but wondering if it is worth trying Immunall on her to try and get her back on track and when/if we try again next year. I found some very old threads on Immunall, but nothing recent. Are people still happy with it and feel like it is worth the price? One thread I found had people giving it in much lower dosage than it says on website. If you are using it for breeding animals, what dosage are you using?
I’ll just add an anecdotal experience I had with my maiden mare. She was 13 when bred (fresh cooled, good quality, great repro team.) She was a fluid builder, tight cervix, typical maiden mare issues - and didn’t take after the first insemination; it was summer - and we were going through a heat wave - this didn’t help things.
I bred to Escudo 2, and bought Immunal from @Edgar (the breeder), and had it overnighted.
We started her on it before the next insemination, she was short-cycled, and only produced one breedable follicle. Still had the same clearance issues and was given the Oxytocin protocol again, etc., but the repro vet was NOT optimistic considering that the first time was a fail - and we only had one follicle.
She took the second time!! :), and the vet was quite surprised!, so the Immunal may or may not have helped - but it might be worth a try for your mare, and certainly couldn’t hurt! This was 7 years ago (and I now have a wonderful 6 year old mare who is the apple of my eye), so I don’t remember the dosage; I’m sure other will weigh in.
Best of luck to you!
I haven’t used it for breeding, but I used it for a bacterial issue - we get Pigeon Fever out here - it is one of those horrible, cyclical things that just happens in the “dry lands”. So when we got an outbreak, I treated 5 or 6 horses with it, and 2 were not treated (mainly because they refused to eat the stuff - it is pretty foul tasting). There was NO difference in recovery time, in fact the one who got it the worst and had it the longest was on Immunal. All were started before any of them had symptoms - one of my boarder horses got it, and I put all the young horses on it right away. I realize that is a very small sample, and not a controlled study, but it was enough for me to decide it wasn’t helping the horses immune systems.
I will say, Edgar was super to deal with - he had the stuff to me immediately.
