Looking for any recommendations on immune system supplements. It is for a horse recently diagnosed with EPM. * I realize supplements as a whole may or may not work and most evidence is anecdotal and I am A okay with that!
SmartPak has an immune supplement as well as an antioxidant which I am currently feeding my older Cushing’s gelding as a complement to his shock wave therapy (I though it might help his body’s natural anti-inflammatory response). I believe vitamin e is recommended for EPM. I went with the “SmartAntioxidant” because it had higher levels of vitamin e as well as grapeseed extract. The vitamin e is synthetic however, so you could also look at something like Elevate which contains high levels of natural vitamin e.
My vet had me start adding in Zinc and Lysine to my horses’ supplements at horseshows strictly for their immune boosting properties. Platinum Performance has an “Immune Support” supplement and she spoke at length with them before making the recommendation to me (that was what they told her they added).
PNW - how much? She gets about 17,000 mg Lysine already. I’d have to check the zinc though - Did she mention adding copper to balance the zinc?
She’s already on 5,000 IUs Vit E (the natural kind) and I will be upping her to 10,000 per vets recommendation. Just hoping there’s something I can add in addition!
I’ll have to go take a look tomorrow. I’ll post the amounts as soon as I get a chance to dig around and find where I wrote it down
Great thank you!
I put my older gelding who had chronic scratches on Smartpak SmartImmune and I am convinced it has greatly helped him!

My mare was just diagnosed with EPM last month. She is on 12,000 iu Natural Vit E, U guard, Accel Lifetime and 10,000 mg of MSM. She is being treated with Marquis and ReBalance. So far in 30 days she has improved tremendously. Best of luck with your horse. This is one nasty disease.
