Imothep offspring?

I’m looking at possible matches for my mare (eldorado van de zsheok x good times) for the 2026 season. She showed at GP level here in the US and is about 16.1/2, lots of bone, fast and careful.

I have heard that Imothep is wonderful but gives GIGANTIC foals. Her maiden filly (emerald) is already quite big. I wanted to see if anyone had any experience using Imothep or even just experience with his offspring.

I’m also VERY welcome to stallion suggestions. I can attach video/photos of her (if I can figure out how).

Welcome to the forum! This post might be better suited in the Sport Horse Breeding forum. Click the hamburger menu button in the top right of your screen (if you’re on your phone), then click Sport Horse Breeding. I don’t think all of the breeders frequent the discipline specific forums, so you night get more advice there. Good luck!

Do you have an idea what you would like the foal to be like? A carbon copy of her? Stronger back, lighter type, better brain, more elastic or just another grand prix horse no big deal :grinning:?

The Stallion Company on FB will give long descriptions of the stallions and types of mares they work well with. I emailed him when I was considering breeding a mare and he was really helpful with my questions.

If you’re looking for another GP horse, I think Quintero’s strike rate is unusually high? He also has Kannan who has overrepresented at the Olympics.

If you want more ammie friendly, probably Tangelo, they’re pretty but such good brains and you are already working with a strong mare. Levisto’s tend to be small but really rideable, I think Jennifer Gates had a run of fabulous grey Levistos. Diarado’s also have great brains but they can be huge.

Lately I’m seeing a lot of Conthargos in the high AOs and GPs. They all seem to have a very good front end, are rideable, shorter coupled with a great canter.

The breeding farm Picobello once did a long Q&A on their IG stories that’s saved on their profile. People asked what they would breed x,y,z mare to. I thought it was really helpful and unvarnished opinions on some stallions and types of mares that suit.

Thank you so much! Obviously I want it all :upside_down_face: but I’d like to breed in a better brain and more heart. Ammy friendly would be great. I love the way she is built and how she goes but I would say more scope, a nice canter and a pretty head are my non-negotiables physically. She is not so tall herself but she is quite heavy. My “type” is heavy, “overgrown pony” but I don’t want to end up with a draft horse…

She is registered KWPN but we are doing the GOV inspections in a couple of weeks for her and her 2024 foal.

She gave me a carbon copy of herself (minus one sock) in black this year with Emerald which I’m over the moon about.

I acknowledge I’m very new to this so I though getting advice from others (in addition to the breeding farm she’s at) is the smart avenue for next year!

*** the woman at the breeding farm told me both imothep babies they had ended up being 18 hands which was my initial reason for the post. I don’t mind 16.3, 17 give or take but I don’t want to end up with a mammoth.

Wow thank you! That q&a was extremely helpful! Thank you for your insight also!

I have the two emerald crosses with my mare so I think I’m back to either Vigo or Tangelo… after the feedback and extra materials I’ve gotten from yall. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Lovely mare and foal!

Wow, she is FABULOUS! Good luck and keep us posted on the emerald foal, that’s going to be special for sure. Tangelo or Vigo are both really good ideas. I would be thrilled having a carbon copy of her personally.

Today at the GOV inspection the filly was given a premium and my mare in studbook I. I really had no expectations but it’s nice to know it was at least a decent cross!

I called Nijhoff and they sent me into a little bit of a spiral thinking I bred two draft horses :upside_down_face:
