Anyone have experience with these? My OTTB has sensitive souls (even after hardening them up with Venice turpentine) so I am considering these for his front feet due to him getting bruises easily on his souls. Do these go on with the shoes or are they removable in between rides? My farrier comes out next week so will consult with him and the vet as well. Just looking for anyone who has experienced these gel pads.
Interesting! I was actually going to have my farrier put a layer of sorbothane under my horses shoes to aid in shock absorption. Sorbothane and Impact Gel are basically the same product. A visco-elastic material that absorbs about 50% of shock which is quite impressive! We switched my horse over to the easy shoe performance https://www.easycareinc.com/our_shoes/Easyshoe_performance_ng/easyshoe_performance_ng.aspx
and he responded really well. I honestly will never put another horse in metal shoes. Imagine trying to run a race, let alone jump, in wooden clogs! Ouch! It would probably be cheaper to use the easy shoe instead of paying for metal shoes and the impact gel pads and will probably get the same result. Though it doesn’t hurt to try several things and see which one your horse likes best!
