Impossible color?

I follow some of the dressage horse sale pages on FB, and there is a horse that has popped up a couple of times. He is advertised as a Friesian/Holsteiner cross, but he is champagne colored. Is that even possible? Or is it likely there’s some other breed in the mix? I am fascinated by odd horse colors.

The warmblood registries are not closed breeds do you might want to look at his pedigree and see if the champagne comes from somewhere documented.

I know the gelding you are talking about. I have seen the ad and the photos. It is important to realize he is a mix of multiple different breeds, not just Friesian and Holsteiner. He is advertised as a Friesian/Holsteiner…but that is only the sire’s breeding. The sire is DG Bolero, who is a bay. He is not a purebred Friesian but a cross with an American Warmblood Society mare who is of Holsteiner blood.

I still haven’t been able to find out much on the dam. She is listed as an American Creme for the breed and her name is Maggie.

The color is possible if the dam is a champagne. Based on the photos, the gelding looks like an amber champagne for color.

That’s interesting! I assumed from the ad that he was 1/2 Holsteiner, 1/2 Friesian. I also thought from his pics that I could see some draft characteristics, which would make sense if his dam was an American Creme.
