Impromptu lunch in Warrenton Friday April 18

The 18th works just fine for me - we welded the lawnmower back together last night so I will happily mow this Friday instead.

It would be nice to actually throw a saddle on a horse too…

My chicken coop is coming together nicely - hope y’all like eggs because I got way too many layers…

I am so envious! I would love to be able to join y’all for lunch. I’ve never been to that area of Virginia, and if I ever do get there, I will probably drool uncontrollably in Horse Country, Old Habit, et al.

What fun to meet up with other COTH’ers! I’ve been trying to organize a meeting for the St. Louis COTHERs to no avail.

So think of me at your luncheon, and glory in all that horse-yness. Right in the middle of hunt country! Lucky you!

Rt66
Silly girl. Highways run west AND east. Come see us sometime. (Warrenton’s only a few miles off 66, I-66 … )

I’ve been invited to hunt with a few hunts in VA, and if I ever hit the lottery, or get a trust fund, I’m putting Buddy in the trailer and heading east. Some people want to go to Hawaii if they get big $$$$; I want to come hunt in VA.

Diesel is right at $4.00/gallon here; I can’t imagine my mileage hauling a trailer over the Smokey Mountains - YIKES!

Don’t forget Virginia Hunt Week. I’m sure HR could hook you up with a horse and a place to stay.

Really - please consider it.

I have not yet heard from the OP (she said she’d call me at home to confirm riding and lunch-ing) – so I wonder if we’re on or what? Friday noon, we’re thinking, yes? Crescendo downtown Warrenton? Anybody?

I’ll be dere!

I’m coming! And did I hear that HR is treating???

Well. how was lunch?

Lovely lunch al fresco on the sunny Warrenton courthouse lawn. Sandwiches from Jimmies. WateryGlen, a friend of hers, JSwan, Pony Mommy, See you at X, VeeZee, Hunter’s Rest, and the lady who bought the place in Orange whose handle escapes me this early Saturday morning. We went to Carousel after for ice cream.
A wonderful time, but the conversation descended into, err, the nether regions (male anatomy and the like) within 5 minutes of convening. A bit risque. :>)

I couldn’t help it - last week’s issue of COTH was… engrossing.

HR deserves a big thanks for picking me up - her reward was a flat tire. Hope it was able to be plugged. CUatX drove me home - again - a big thank you.

My truck hasn’t even been looked at yet.

I hope we can all get together again soon - hopefully over at HR’s place.

What I always find fascinating is how, when horse people meet, within 5 minutes they find out they know the same people. The horse world is very small!

That was so much fun! I want to thank everyone for putting this picnic together. I had the best time meeting everyone. I’m so glad I was brave enough to go beyond my gate yesterday. Thank you for making it so much fun and getting a chance to meet other horse people in the area. I can’t wait to do this again sometime.
Sincerely,
Vee

Aw, hell, Vee. Welcome to the club. Glad to have you here in Va. :>)
That was fun, wasn’t it??!!

Lady from Orange here

Hey, I had a great time:D We have to do this again when the OP comes to town, or even if she doesn’t!!! You guys are great.

I’m thinking of changing my handle to “Lady from Orange” it’s very Shakespereesque:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

See ya,

Eventer55
AKA Judith

Judith. Our dear, sweet, Judith. Sooooo sorry for the brain freeze. Musta been the ice cream …
That really was a kick. Let’s indeed do it again. Perhaps in lovely downtown Orange sometime?

Here’s the picture!

OK ya’ll…picture this! 8 beeyooteeful COTH ladies sitting in the shade on the courthouse lawn drinkin’ soda’s & eating sandwiches. Gorgeous spring day, perfect weather. Peak spring blooms of redbuds, dogwoods, tulips etc. We were all quite well turned out. No dirty fingernails and I didn’t see any hay in our clean, well coifed hair! JSwan is quite the looker! The talk was clearly of our horses and our disciplines. Some gossip shared. Lots of humor & laughing. Sometimes we got boisterous!
When we met up; we were standing in front of the restaurant Crescendo on mainstreet in old town Warrenton. You just kinda walked up and asked…“Coth!!!” and they would smile and say yea! Hey I’m Wateryglen!! We introduced ourselves by our coth names first!!! How neat is that!! So then we walked down to Jimmies Market and ordered sandwiches to go. Yakking all the time.
After lunch we loaded up in cars together to drive the half mile or so to a local ice cream stand and most of us got either cones or sundaes! BURP! Sat at picnic tables under umbrellas getting boisterous again! My friend Kathy & I left to attend our packs competition in the Bassett Trials at the National Beagle Institute near Middleburg so we missed the planned shopping spree at Horse Country. Someone will have to fill us in on how it went!
OH! And so now we found out Mrs. JSwan got her colors and has ordered her dehners with the patent tops and THATS how she gets the coupon to a free pair of paddock boots!! Congratulations!! wooo hoooo!
And PonyMommy is still riding that far along in foal!!! You go girl! And HuntersRest didn’t get a flat to fix on mainstreet just to meet guys afterall! And we all have horse challenges (health, training, etc)that will keep us coming back to the boards on an ongoing basis!!! AND we ARE doing this again!!!
OH…and HR didn’t treat…:no::lol:

Next time, girls. Next time. Ice cream for all. Promise.

I concur with all of the above statements. I had such a blast…you were ALL so much fun to hang out with! The food was great, too, and I’d almost forgotten about how the conversation drifted…um, a little bit…er… “south” regarding a certain picture in COTH last week. (Oh, those tight breeches!) We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day if we tried.

It was great to meet Wateryglen and Kathy who said such kind things about the people at my barn. Pam, Julie, and Shallon thought it was wonderful that I got to meet both of you and were happy to hear about Anita and her new horse. Indeed, the horse world IS very small!

HR, thank you, thank you, thank you for setting this up. I hope that when I’m secure enough in my riding/jumping, that I can perhaps come out and take a few lessons with you to get more comfy about jumping cross country. It will be a while, but it is definitely something for me to look forward to down the road. And I definitely want to come out at the end of May!

Vee, congrats on your new farm and if you ever want to attend a dressage show, let me know. Either as a spectator or rider. I find it difficult to find people who want to go watch them and if you decide to show, I’ll be there to cheer you on.

And J Swan, thank you for letting me drag you to Horse Country, for the FABULOUS history lesson on the area, and for teaching me about hilltopping, cubbing, and hunting. You’ve inspired me to find some books on local history to better educate myself with. And of course, I loved meeting John, Opie, and “the free horse”, as well as the menagerie of other critters. Shhh…don’t tell the others, but I’m pretty partial to John…he’s a really nice boy and how can you not love that face?!? And the barn is BEE-YOO-TI-FUL!

Although I didn’t get to talk much to Eventer55 (“Lady from Orange” would be a great handle, btw ) and PonyMommy (I bow down to you for still riding this far along!), I just want to say that it was a real pleasure to meet both of you. I sincerely hope that I’ll get the chance to visit with the two of you again.

damn, I wish I had seen this, I would have joined y’all. Oh well, can we do it again soon?

Instead of another lunch in the city my vote is for a Picnic/Trailride…I have ride-out by my farm but probably not enough room for all the trailers to park and turn around. Maybe someone with more room could volunteer!

Sign me up!! What a great idea.
