Impulsive Pony Rescuing

Well. As the title implies, today I became the owner of an alleged Connemara pony mare:

I’m “splitting” the project with my trainer ie I am covering her purchase price and vet/farrier and she will cover boarding costs and provide training with the hope to rehab her and make her a nice little project.

Still working on getting shipping covered to New England, but she should be here next week if all goes according to plan.

The excitement is wearing off a little bit and the “oh god what have I done” thoughts are getting loud. I hope if nothing else this little lady gets a soft landing with us while we get her some vet and farrier care and anything else is frosting. Fingers crossed!!

I get " Sorry! That page doesn’t seem to exist."
How old?
Does she have a chip?

Oh they took her down! Here is the FB post. She is 10, will look for a chip when she gets here.

Be sure to post her Glowup pics.

Oh wow! Those feet!

So glad you are giving her a chance. You and your trainer are earning much karma.

Thank you!! And yes - those feet are being addressed ASAP. I paid for a farrier to trim her before she gets shipped. That said - we were very impressed by how sound she looked on the video even with her scuba flippers!

As you already know, I AM SO EXCITED for you and can’t wait to meet her. I have been anxiously updating waiting for you to break the news to the COTH family.

Thank you for saving her! When she gets here, let me know what size she is… She may have more than one COTH fairy godmother…

P.S love that you called them scuba flippers :joy:

I may have pulled that lovely terminology from a friend :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Love these “see what I got from the pen” threads.

Looking forward to her actual scientifically-measured height. Had a recent brush with a shocked and dismayed family that a formal breed title of “Riding Pony” did not actually mean a USEF-height-qualified pony. 15h on that one. But classic cob look with a cute pony-type head, so there’s that.

omg! That must have been a bummer for them.

I wondered if her height was faithful, I was trying to figure out how tall the guy in the video was.

one1horse knows this already but I have a niece that could use a nice midsized pony in a few years… might need to start a piggy bank

Why don’t you buy this super-cute 15h German Riding Pony mare who could use some finishing before your neice is ready ??? Your neice wants to do dressage, right ???

(not me  )

Well, she’s made it to the shipper’s farm in NC, and I got photos this morning. She did not get her feet trimmed despite me paying for that and some vaccines, so I’m worried she didn’t get vaccinated either. Hoping Bowie will respond to me and give me some clarity on that.

But at least they put the right pony on the truck!

update 2 seconds later, Bowie got back to me and confirmed she was vaccinated. Refunding me for the trim. Can’t complain about that.

I can’t wait to watch her blossom under your care!

Glad she is on the right truck “home”! Looking forward to her future updates.

Her feet look pretty bad in that photo. I wonder if Bowie had a farrier who thought it would be best to defer work until she was in her permanent home. Probably at Bowie they just do the minimum rasp-around, and she needs a lot more special work than that.

It would have been nice to smooth out the edges a bit before the trip. But I would respect a farrier decision to let this one go until she is “home” and has her own long-term farrier to get her feet into the best shape.

I was told it’s because they didn’t have a farrier available to come out that week, so no one looked at her feet.

We have someone scheduled to trim her on Tuesday.

But they billed you anyway. Out of habit, I’m sure … :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Glad you stayed on top of that, and they were easily ready to adjust the bill! Hope she really is vaccinated … guess they don’t want a disease outbreak to be traced back to them!

You pay for the services when you “check out” and pay for the horse, so I paid for the trim and vaccines ahead of time. The owner of Bowie told me she was vaccinated and then refunded me for the trim within an hour of me messaging him. So overall I feel it was fair.
