In-Hand Work

Over the winter I want to work more on in hand work with my little OTTB mare. She’s a spicy thing at times, but has a good work ethic and has taken to some pretty basic long reining well enough. I’ve also done some minor things in hand (turn on forehand, turn on hind end).

I just purchased Richard Hinrichs’ Schooling Horses in Hand DVD and already own Part 1 of Fritz Stahlecker’s DVDs, Horse Training In-Hand: A Modern Guide to Working from the Ground (which I have to get back from my friend), and Training the Horse in Hand: The Classical Iberian Principles. I’ve also watched Ellen Ofstad’s video series.

Any other suggestions? I’d prefer videos/DVDs at this point as I’m more of a visual learner.

There’s oodles of stuff on youtube. Just search in hand dressage training. Just for fun: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39tZ8pcDlQ4

Goodness. What a red horse you have!
